Job Description

Braeburn Schools is a group of 16 co-educational international schools spread over 9 campuses providing world class teaching of the British National Curriculum and GCE A-Levels to over 3,600 pupils.

Summary

We are seeking to recruit a Driver at Braeburn Garden Estate and Braeside Lavington and two Drivers for Braeburn Gitanga road campus. In the first instance these vacancies are being offered internally, should there be no suitable candidate the positions will be advertised generally.

Reports to: Transport Coordinator/Headteachers/Fleet Manager

Position Objective: 

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young adults at all times

Applicants should have mechanical knowledge/training and be able to:-

  • Be fully aware of and to drive in accordance with the road Traffic Laws of Kenya.
  • Be fully aware of and to drive in accordance with the company transport policy and guidelines.
  • Be fully aware of and be in compliance with the regulations of Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
  • Be aware that all passengers must be wearing seat belts whilst the vehicle is in motion.
  • Drive at all times in a safe manner and to avoid where possible harsh braking and acceleration. Ref GPRS system. Drive designated vehicles in a manner that is both fuel efficient and safe for its occupants
  • Report to the line manager any accident that may occur on the road while driving the school vehicle
  • Clean the company vehicles as required.
  • Report any accident/incident/damage to the Transport Coordinator (TC) as soon as practically possible.
  • Report any incident of abnormal passenger behaviour to the Head Teachers and TC as soon as practically possible. Report any repairs or maintenance required on the vehicle to the TC as soon as practically possible.
  • Have suitability test from the Ministry of Transport (KIHBT) and basic knowledge in First Aid
  • Have annual eye-sight test and to wear corrective aids at all times if necessary.
  • Inspect daily the emergency equipment on the vehicle (first aid kit, lifesaver, jack + handle, spare tyre & personal phone) to ensure these are available, fully charged and in good working order.
  • Inspect daily all seat belts and to report any faults to the TC as soon as practically possible.
  • Be in full uniform, worn smartly, whilst on duty at all times and the uniform to be kept clean (as per the CBA).
  • Perform any other duties according to your capability, as may be assigned to you by the Transport Coordinator Have a clean, valid, B, C1, C, D1, D2, D3 driving licence (as minimum).
  • Be practising driver with at least 5 years’ experience. Evidence of having worked in an education/service institution will be of added advantage.
  • Be willing to travel to and work at other Braeburn stations and to work outside normal working hours
  • Have good interpersonal and communication skills (with acceptable spoken English proficiency)
  • Be capable of working independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience with Toyota Hiace, Toyota coasters and various heavy vehicles will be an added advantage. Suitability test from the Ministry of Roads (Mechanical and Transport Department)
  • Conversant with manual and automatic vehicle
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical automotive vehicle is advantage
  • Possess a Certificate of Good Conduct and driver institution PSV license and have a bank account, KRA Pin, NSSF and NHIF cards
