Job Description

The Lutheran World Federation (LWF; German: Lutherischer Weltbund) is a global communion .The Department for World Service is the LWF’s humanitarian arm. It has programmes in 32 countries. The LWF is a member of ACT Alliance.

Overall Purpose/Broad Function

The Education Officer – EYE, will assist and support the Education technical lead in the management of the 23 preprimary schools by among other duties coordinating and overseeing administration operational plans in the education department. Specifically, the position holder will work with head teachers to identify school needs and ensure proper management of schools, community mobilization, liaison with UNHCR and other partners supporting education as well as coordination of all procurement and logistical functions for education sector. The incumbent will work closely with the Sub-County Education office in Quality Assurance and Standards to ensure regular standard school assessment and regular monitoring visits, preparation, registration and presentation of learners for national assessment. The officer will also work with teachers to promote and enhance learners’ participation in co-curriculum activities as per the Ministry of Education calendar. The officers will lead identification of teacher training needs, develop training schedules and lead teacher trainings and post teacher training development programs.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

  • Planning for early years’ activities by writing proposals, preparations of budget, work plans.
  • Identifying the needs of teachers and learners.
  • Preparations of distribution plans.
  • Ensuring timely distributions of items/materials to the schools.
  • Ensure regular monitoring and evaluation of Early Years program activities through routine supervisory visits and use of information to improve on project quality and implementation.
  • Coordinate training, mentoring and evaluating Early Years teachers with the support of MOE County and Sub County government officials.
  • Support the teachers on the continuous assessments of learners.
  • Organizing and participating in meetings for various groups that includes Board of Management (BOMs), community leaders, Head teachers and teachers.
  • Identifying, analyzing, documenting lesson learnt, best practices and success stories from the project with the support of communication office.
  • Ensuring timely preparations and submission of quality progress reports that meets donor requirements with the support of PMER.
  • Representing the organization at various forums when requested.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the line supervisor.

Education/Professional Designations/Experience

  • Must have at least a degree in education from a recognized institution.
  • Must be registered teacher by Teachers Service Commission (TSC)
  • Technical expertise in curriculum implementation
  • Technical expertise in education in emergencies (EiE)
  • Proven academic or on-job training and understanding of the Project Cycle model in managing humanitarian assistance with at least three (3) years in education programming.
  • A very good understanding of Comprehensive School Safety or Disaster Management
  • Experience in coordination of teacher training programs
  • Strong analytical, administration and documentation skills in the management of educational institutions or programs consisting of primary education.
  • Experience in Training of Trainers/Facilitators skills (TOT & TOF) an advantage
  • Excellent communication, time management, organization and presentation skills
  • Demonstrate ability to supervise, mentor and provide professional support to other teachers;

Other Specific Skill Requirements

  • Experience of working in refugee schools or with refugee community in the camp or urban set up.
  • Exemplary guidance and counselling skills, and experience in provision of psychosocial support
  • Ability to use e-learning devices for teaching, data collection, analysis and dissemination
  • Passionate for inclusive education
  • High level of integrity, commitment and professional responsibility.
  • Ability to tolerate cultural, educational and religious diversity in the work place.
  • Passionate for inclusive education and some experience in mainstreaming child protection and gender issues in education
