Job Description

We know that timely and accurate information on fertilizers, seeds, weather, crop management and markets, is the turning point of rural agricultural production. Rural smallholders account for over 70% of the food produced in Africa. With the expected population increase of over 2 billion by 2050, world population will be in great food demand. Small holder Farmers are at the centre stage to bringing the new agricultural revolution in africa. We know that this revolution has to start with data.

About The Position

At UjuziKilimo, the Embedded Systems Engineering Intern will design, Assemble and test hardware and firmware for environmental monitoring systems based on sensor technology used mainly in soil and environmental and geo-data collection. Design work on other embedded electronic components, PCBs, will also be undertaken, which includes, rapid prototyping, testing and design of end products and quality assurance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Primarily supporting the Lead Engineer on hardware design, firmware and work with dedicated software engineers. Involved in new design projects as well as support to existing production and other areas of the company.
  • May carry out detailed electronic circuit design, including simulation and design verification testing of the new design as instructed by lead Engineer.
  • May Carry out PCB layout of designs using PCB design software (Altium, Eagle etc) with supervision from lead Engineer.
  • With Guidance from lead engineer, may prepare and presents electronic designs to other members of the design team and project stakeholders at design reviews.
  • Documents design work and prepare reports, ensuring design files and information are kept up to date and stored in accordance with company procedures as instructed by lead engineer.
  • Follow processes relating to management of designs, and the design and project management processes.
  • Support the Engineering Manager in recording and reporting design progress into the project and management teams.
  • Support ongoing electronics lab work, assisting in experiments, testing, and troubleshooting activities. Collaborate with experienced engineers to gain practical insights into embedded systems development. Data Analysis and Calibration works.
  • Assist in the analysis of data from multiple sensors and samples, contributing to the calibration of sensors and hardware components.
  • Learn and apply calibration procedures under the guidance of experienced team members.

Qualifications & Profile

You are the best candidate for this role you have the following.

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Solid Firmware programming experience in C or C++ & other Microcontroller/Microprocessor programming languages.
  • Proficiency in electronics design software (Eagle PCB, Altium, KiCAD etc)
  • Able to translate design mockups and prototypes into functional designs
  • Have a vibrant personality and exceptional technical/non-technical communication skills (Verbal & written).
  • Able to prioritize work in multi-tasking environment, work under pressure & meet tight deadlines
  • The ability to work with a high degree of autonomy, collaboration, agility and limited supervision.

Experience

  • At least 2 years Hardware design experience within a relevant industry. A broad range of experience but ideally with strong all-round electronic design and software/firmware skills
  • Strong knowledge of Analogue and Digital Design including microprocessors/microcontrollers, programmable logic, embedded firmware/software, PCB design, Schematic capture and simulation.
