Job Description

The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) is a 100% state-owned corporation incorporated on 2nd December, 2008 under the Company’s Act, Cap 486 as a State Corporation pursuant to the Sessional Paper No. 4 of 2004 on Energy.

ENGINEER POWER DISPATCH – (KET 6) ONE (1 POST) REF: KET/5/1C/40/191-B (9/2023) ON PERMANENT AND PENSIONABLE

Reporting to Manager, Real Time Operations.

Job Purpose

This job is responsible for undertaking quality and reliable delivery of electrical energy to the consumer at ALL times and respects commercial and technical obligations of the TSO as per the generation plan.

Key Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks

  • Maintaining allowable frequency range as per the Transmission Grid Code;
  • Maintaining system voltages at all busses within the required range as per the Transmission Grid Code;
  • Ensuring optimal generation dispatch guided the merit order;
  • Keeping track of status of reactive power equipment in the system during shift;
  • Capturing machines dispatch records during the shift;
  • Logging all relevant system events according to the Operations Procedures and management directives;
  • Implementing real-time actions that ensure the reliable operation of the National Grid;
  • Working in conjunction with Transmission management engineer on duty desk to share information as a cohesive shift output;
  • Working in conjunction with other departments and sections of the company, generators, and control centres of other interconnected TSOs in all matters of common interest and to ensures the security and stability of the national and interconnected power system;
  • Working in conjunction with the Regional Shift Controllers in matters involving the operation of their respective 11kV, 33kV and/or 66kV networks so as to maintain the integrity of the system;
  • Capturing and reporting any event (fault or incident causing loss of supplies) in accordance with the existing operational procedures and working instructions;
  • Preparing reports regarding system performance at the end of every shift;
  • Undertaking the required internal and external training requirements and certifications;

Qualifications & Skills required

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related Electrical Engineering Degree;
  • Registered member with EBK;
  • Member of IEK;
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience.
