Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) – Consultant

Job Summary:

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) Trainer to design and deliver capacity-building programs on the World Bank’s ESF. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of the World Bank’s 10 Environmental and Social Standards (ESSs), strong facilitation skills, and hands-on experience in managing environmental and social risks in development projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and deliver training modules on the World Bank ESF and its 10 Environmental and Social Standards.
  • Facilitate workshops, webinars, and on-site training sessions for project teams, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Prepare and update training materials, including case studies, toolkits, and learner guides.
  • Provide technical guidance on the preparation of ESIA, ESMP, RAP, SEP, and related documents.
  • Stay current with evolving ESF policies, tools, and best practices.
  • Evaluate training outcomes and provide post-training support as needed.

Requirements:

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Social Sciences, Environmental Law, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • 5–10+ years of professional experience in environmental and social risk management in development projects.

Proven knowledge of:

  • World Bank ESF and Environmental and Social Standards (ESS1–ESS10)
  • Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), RAPs, SEPs, and GRMs
  • Other International frameworks (e.g., IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles)
  • Practical experience working with governments, NGOs, or International Development Agencies.
  • Strong facilitation and adult training experience, including use of participatory methods.
