Job Description

Abyssinia Group of Industries is the largest steel producer in East Africa with capacity in excess of 350,000 metric tons per annum. Using mineral resources from its own mining operations in Homa Bay County and imported uncompromised billets.

SUMMARY

Abyssinia Group is seeking an experienced EPZ Customs Executive to manage and oversee the customs and trade compliance activities within the Export Processing Zone (EPZ). The ideal candidate will have 3 to 5 years of proven experience in EPZ customs management, ensuring smooth import and export processes while maintaining compliance with relevant regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Customs Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with EPZ customs regulations, laws, and procedures.
  • Stay updated on changes in customs laws and communicate these changes to relevant stakeholders.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare and submit accurate and timely customs documentation for imports and exports.
  • Generate and maintain comprehensive records of customs transactions and activities.

Tariff Classification:

  • Classify products according to customs tariff codes and ensure accurate application of duty rates.
  • Collaborate with relevant departments to ensure proper product classification.

Liaison with Authorities:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customs authorities and other relevant government agencies.
  • Represent the company in customs-related matters and address queries or concerns.

Trade Compliance Audits:

  • Conduct regular audits to ensure adherence to EPZ customs compliance standards.
  • Implement corrective actions based on audit findings to enhance compliance.

Tariff Preferences and Incentives:

  • Identify and leverage tariff preferences and incentives available within the EPZ framework.
  • Work closely with the finance and procurement teams to maximize cost benefits.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Customs Management, International Trade, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in EPZ customs management, preferably in a manufacturing setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of Kenyan customs laws, regulations, and EPZ requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in customs management software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
