Farm Tractor Driver

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will perform the following duties:

  • Operate tractors and other farm machinery safely and efficiently for land preparation, planting, spraying, ploughing, harrowing, transportation, and other assigned field operations.
  • Perform routine maintenance, daily inspections, and basic repairs and calibration on tractors, implements, and related equipment.
  • Identify and report mechanical faults and undertake minor repairs where appropriate.
  • Ensure all equipment is clean and kept in good working condition.
  • Drive institutional vehicles where authorized and required.
  • Maintain accurate work logs, fuel records, and maintenance records.
  • Follow safety procedures, occupational safety and health standards, and farm operating guidelines.
  • Assist with other general farm duties and perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor from time to time.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Possess a minimum of a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a D+ (Plus) or its equivalent.
  • Possess a valid Class G (or G12) driving license for tractor operation, and a valid
  • Class B2 or Class B/C driving license (or equivalent) for standard motor vehicles.
  • Have at least five (5) years’ relevant experience operating farm tractors and agricultural machinery.
  • Demonstrate a fair knowledge of motor vehicle/tractor mechanics and basic maintenance.
  • Possess a valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
  • Be physically fit and capable of working flexible hours during peak seasons and under varying weather conditions.
  • Possess strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Have good communication, integrity, discipline, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Added Advantage

  • Candidates holding an Artisan or Craft certificate in Agricultural Engineering.
  • Applicants who hail from or reside within Cheplanget Ward.


Method of Application

Terms of Employment
  • Employment shall be subject to the Employment Act, 2007, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, 2007, the Work Injury Benefits Act (WIBA), 2007, the Labour Relations Act, 2007, and all other applicable laws of Kenya.
  • The successful candidate will be engaged on terms and conditions to be communicated in the letter of appointment.
  • Remuneration shall be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
  • Appointment shall be subject to successful reference checks, verification of academic
  • and professional credentials, and medical fitness where applicable.
  • The successful candidate shall undergo a probationary period in accordance with the Employment Act and institutional Human Resource policies.
