Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Field Management:

  • Supervise all field operations, including planting, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and harvesting.
  • Ensure optimal utilization of resources to maximize yield and quality.
  • Implement and oversee proper avocado farming practices to enhance productivity and sustainability.

Team Leadership:

  • Coordinating team of QCs (4 teams of: 4QCs each & 40 Pickers each)
  • Lead, train, and manage field staff to ensure high performance and adherence to safety and operational standards.
  • Monitor employee performance and provide feedback, support, and necessary training.
  • Develop and implement a clear communication strategy with the field team to ensure all tasks are understood and executed effectively.

Quality Control:

  • Monitor the quality of avocados at all stages of production and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with quality control teams to implement corrective actions when necessary.

Resource Management:

  • Manage the allocation and maintenance of field equipment and materials.
  • Oversee budgeting for field operations and ensure cost-effective use of resources.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare and maintain detailed reports on production, resource usage, labour, and other key metrics.
  • Provide regular updates to senior management on field operations and progress towards targets.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure all field operations comply with local agricultural regulations and environmental guidelines.
  • Promote and enforce safety standards to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Working on certifications and standards for farms in the database (Global Gap, GRASP, SMETA, Rainforest)
  • Manage whole field operations for 200 containers a season.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in field operations management, preferably in avocado or similar fruit farming.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of avocado farming techniques and best practices.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in the use of farm management software and other relevant tools.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with smallholder farmers and knowledge of sustainable farming practices.
  • Familiarity with local and international avocado market trends.
