Job Description

The Trust for Indigenous Culture and Health (TICAH) was established in Kenya in 2003. Our aim is to promote health. Our focus is on good relationships, healthy households, and community action. We seek to learn from indigenous wisdom wherever we can.

Your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Supporting the processing of weekly payments to vendors in a timely manner and ensuring all payment vouchers are supported adequately.
  • Supporting the processing of transport reimbursements using the MPESA bulk payment platform system, which includes verification and uploading of verified payment lists for approval.
  • Maintaining a virtual filing system for all payments processed on TICAH’s Finance SharePoint.
  • Updating the invoice tracker after each payment cycle, ensuring that the tracker is up to date at the end of each week.
  • Supporting with the filing of weekly payment vouchers, cash reports, contracts, and any other documents and correspondence.
  • Supporting in the posting of transactions in the financial system every week.
  • Tracking and following up on reviewed cash reports to ensure the respective team members fully address any issues raised.
  • Supporting with tracking of sales of publications to ensure the accuracy of records maintained.
  • Supporting the Procurement Committee with preparation for and sourcing of new vendors, ensuring the applications are organized in preparation for the next review period.
  • Providing procurement and logistical support from time to time.
  • Supporting the Administrative Assistant with drafting and reviewing of vendor contracts.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the team to offer additional support as and when needed.

Who we are looking for:

  • You have 1-2 years’ experience working in a fast-paced finance office in the development space.
  • You hold a degree in Finance or Accounting from a reputable university with at least a CPA Part 2 qualification.
  • You have an in-depth understanding of accounting principles, with a fair grasp of procurement and administrative methods.
  • You are familiar with accounting software such as QuickBooks or have experience with any other accounting software as well as payment platforms like Safaricom bulk.
  • You have experience in the use of Microsoft Office suite including MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • You have a high sense of integrity and confidentiality.
  • You are highly organized and able to deliver results on time.
  • You can work in a team, supporting complex finance and procurement processes.
  • You have a high sense of accountability and commitment to work.
  • You are an excellent communicator both verbally, and in written form.
  • You are willing to learn and open-minded i.e. able to freely interact with people of different cultural backgrounds.

NOTE: This is a paid, 6-month internship where the successful candidate will be required to be physically present at our Karen office for 5 days each week i.e., Monday to Friday, from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
