Médecins sans frontières (MSF) or Doctors Without Borders, is an international humanitarian-aid non-governmental organization (NGO) and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, best known for its projects in war-torn regions and developing countries facing endemic diseases.

Finance Tools Specialist

Tasks & Responsibilities

Finance System administration and governance

  • Acts as the finance functional focal point for UniField, WeFin, and related finance tools.
  • Maintains system configurations, master data, user access, and finance-related settings.
  • Monitors system performance, data quality, and compliance with MSF standards.
  • Represents MSF Ubuntu in relevant UniField and WeFin platforms and coordinates enhancement requests, testing, and issue resolution.
  • Provides recommendations on the effective use and optimization of finance systems.

Functional Support & Solution Design

  • Provides functional support to users and troubleshoot systems and process-related issues.
  • Analyzes root causes and coordinates resolution with IT, system referents, and external support teams.
  • Gathers business requirements and translates them into practical system solutions.
  • Supports user acceptance testing, system releases, upgrades, and new functionality implementation.
  • Ensures effective integration and data flows between finance tools and related systems.

Process improvement and Workflow management

  • Maps, documents, and improves finance processes and workflows across MSF Ubuntu.
  • Develops standardized and scalable ways of working supported by finance systems.
  • Ensures alignment between business processes, policies, controls, and system configurations.
  • Identifies opportunities for process optimization, automation, and harmonization across Country Programs.
  • Supports change management and adoption of new processes and system functionalities.

Deployment, training and capacity building

  • Supports the deployment, rollout, and expansion of finance tools within Country Programs.
  • Designs and delivers face-to-face, virtual, and on-the-job training for finance system users.
  • Coaches and support key users to strengthen local ownership and expertise.
  • Assesses training needs and develop learning plans to improve user competency.
  • Promotes knowledge sharing and best practices across MSF Ubuntu.

Documentation and Knowledge management

  • Develops and maintains procedures, guidelines, training materials, and user documentation.
  • Ensures documentation remains current, practical, accessible, and aligned with system and process changes.
  • Contributes to the development of knowledge resources and e-learning materials.
  • Maintains accurate records of deployments, training activities, and key system changes.

Coordination & Reporting

  • Collaborates closely with Finance, HR, Supply, IT, Country Programs, and intersection platform stakeholders.
  • Provides regular reporting and recommendations to the Head of Finance Operations.
  • Prepares deployment, training, and support reports and follow up on agreed action plans

Qualifications

Education

  • A degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with finance ERP systems in a support, administration, implementation, or optimization role.
  • Experience with international NGOs or complex multi-country organizations. Experience with MSF is an asset.
  • Proven experience in functional support of ERP systems and finance applications. Experience with UniField and/or WeFin is a strong asset.
  • Experience in business process analysis, workflow design, and process improvement.
  • Experience delivering training, coaching, and capacity-building initiatives.

Technical competencies

  • Strong knowledge of finance ERP systems, configuration, master data management, and user support.
  • Solid understanding of system integrations, data flows, and interfaces between Finance, HR, Supply, and related systems.
  • Knowledge of system implementation lifecycles, UAT, release management, and post-go-live support.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and good knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, and Power BI.
  • Ability to translate complex systems and finance concepts into clear, user-friendly guidance and solutions.

  • Working proficiency in English is mandatory (incl. delivering training / webinar in English).
  • Knowledge of French is a strong asset.
  • Additional languages are an advantage.

Conditions and Benefits:

  • The role requires regular travel to countries of operation and MSF Ubuntu hubs.
  • Travel at short notice may be required during emergencies, assessments or critical incidents.
  • The post-holder may be required to work extended or irregular hours during crises.
  • The role requires high levels of discretion, resilience, political judgement and emotional intelligence.
  • The position will operate in a growing Operational Directorate and will require adaptability as MSF Ubuntu’s structures, systems and portfolio evolve.
  • Job Location: The position will be based in either MSF Eastern Africa office in Nairobi (Kenya), or Johannesburg (South Africa).
  • Contract: 2-year renewable, full-time contract.
  • Start date: As Soon As Possible.

If based in Nairobi, the benefits below shall apply:

  • Salary: An annual salary of EUR 27,145 at HQ Grade 8 based on a full-time appointment with an annual increment of 2% every year up to a maximum of 10 years.
  • Work-life balance financial benefit:; ranging between EUR 620 to 1,159/month based on individual & administrative status. This amount may be used to cover accommodation and utilities, transportation, etc.

Other benefits include;

  • Annual Leave: 25 days of annual leave per year.
  • Other Holidays: sick leave, circumstantial leave, maternity leave (21 weeks), paternity leave (4 weeks), own affairs days off, etc.
  • Employer Pension contribution: 10% of basic salary:
