Job Description

Migori County is a county in the former Nyanza Province of southwestern Kenya. It is located in western Kenya and borders Homa Bay County, Kisii County, Narok, Tanzania and Lake Victoria to the West. The county also borders Uganda via Migingo Island in Lake Victoria.

Duties and Responsibilities

This is the entry and initial grade for certificate holders. An officer at this level will work under the supervision of an experienced officer. Duties and responsibilities will entail:

  • Promote fish farming at the ward level
  • Carry out aquaculture extension services
  • Collect and compile capture and aquaculture and blue economy data
  • Promote fish safety, and good handling practices in the farms, markets and landing site
  • Enforcement of fisheries legislation in the wards
  • Compile fisheries monthly reports
  • Assist in implementation of directorate’s projects and programmes.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  • Be a Kenyan citizen
  • Certificate in either fisheries and aquaculture management, Natural Resource Management or an equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution; and
  • Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution.
