CHAK’s constitution provides for membership to Protestant churches’ health facilities and community-based health programmes provided their services are not for profit. Mission To facilitate member health units in their provision of quality healthcare services through advocacy, health systems strengthening, networking and innovative health programme

General Manager

Job Purpose
The General Manager will provide strategic leadership, business development, operational oversight and financial stewardship across CBSL’s business units. The role will be responsible for driving profitability, business growth, operational excellence, quality service delivery and long-term sustainability while ensuring alignment with CHAK’s Christian values and mission.

As the Accounting Officer of CBSL, the General Manager will serve as the principal link between the Board, management, clients, strategic partners and other stakeholders.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership in the development and implementation of CBSL’s corporate strategy, annual business plans and growth initiatives.
  • Provide overall leadership across business units to drive revenue growth, profitability, and cash-flow management while ensuring strong financial discipline, cost efficiency, and responsible asset utilization.
  • Lead business development, commercialization, investment opportunities and strategic partnerships that expand CBSL’s revenue base and market position.
  • Identify and develop new business ventures, innovative commercial opportunities and strategic partnerships with investors, development finance institutions, private sector organizations, health facilities and other stakeholders.
  • Provide effective corporate governance and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, licenses, contractual obligations and CHAK policies and values.
  • Provide timely and high-quality reports to the Board on business performance, financial results, risks, opportunities and strategic investments.
  • Lead enterprise risk management, safeguarding CBSL against financial, operational, reputational, cybersecurity and other business risks.
  • Build and lead high-performing teams, promote accountability and performance, and foster a culture of integrity, innovation, excellence and customer focus.
  • Maintain strong relationships with the Board, clients, investors, development partners, government agencies and other strategic stakeholders.
  • Ensure that CBSL’s commercial activities contribute sustainably to CHAK’s wider health mission and social impact.

Academic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in business administration, Strategic Management, Finance, Commerce, Economics, Health Management or another relevant discipline from a recognised university.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Commerce, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Health Management, Project Management or another relevant discipline.
  • Member of a relevant professional body in good standing.
  • Professional training or certification in corporate governance, executive leadership, strategic management, finance, project management or enterprise risk management will be an added advantage.

Experience

  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible management experience, including a minimum of 5 years in a senior executive leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple business units with overall financial and commercial accountability.
  • A strong track record in business development, revenue generation, commercial management, strategic partnerships and organizational growth.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing corporate strategies that deliver business growth and financial sustainability.
  • Experience working with Boards of Directors, investors, financial institutions, development partners and other strategic stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing organizational transformation.
  • Experience in one or more of the following sectors will be an advantage: healthcare, hospitality, consulting, infrastructure, ICT, financial services, development finance or other diversified commercial enterprises.
  • Experience in a faith-based, social enterprise or purpose-driven organization will be an added advantage.

Other Requirements

  • Demonstrable understanding of the Companies Act, 2015, corporate governance principles and regulatory requirements applicable to commercial entities in Kenya.
  • Must satisfy the applicable integrity and leadership requirements under Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
  • Must be a Christian and able to authentically demonstrate alignment with CHAK’s Christian values and faith-based mandate.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required by the business.
