Graduate Research Assistant

  • Moi University invites applications for a Graduate Research Assistant under the four-year comparative research project: “Translating Education: Multilingual Pedagogies, Terminologies, and World-Making in Primary Schools in Kenya and Burkina Faso (TRED)”.
  • This project is funded by the Cluster of Excellence EXC 2052 Africa Multiple at the University of Bayreuth and implemented through the Africa Multiple Research Centres at Moi University and Université Joseph Ki-Zerbo.

The successful candidate will support:

  • Ethnographic fieldwork in primary schools in Nairobi, Kisumu and Uasin Gishu
  • Classroom observations, interviews, focus group discussions and data collection
  • Transcription and translation of multilingual classroom and interview data
  • Preliminary coding, literature searches and research documentation
  • Ethical management, anonymisation and secure organisation of research data
  • Research meetings, training, fieldwork debriefings and dissemination activities

Who Can Apply?

Applicants should have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Translation Studies, Education (Arts), Languages, or a closely related discipline
  • Training or experience in qualitative/educational research or field data collection
  • Very good spoken and written English and Kiswahili
  • Willingness to undertake intensive fieldwork and work respectfully in primary-school settings
  • A strong commitment to research ethics, confidentiality, child safeguarding, diversity and respectful community engagement
