Job Description

CARE International is a major humanitarian agency delivering emergency relief and long-term international development projects.

About the role:

As the Grants and Finance Lead, Digital Inclusion you will lead the program’s extensive grants management function, including recruiting and managing a dedicated sub-team to support this work. WiDEF will include multiple rounds of eternal-facing grants competitions. The Grants and Finance Lead will serve as the business manager for the initiative: developing and monitoring the annual budget; modeling budgets for new opportunities; informing and working in lock step with each round of grants competitions and, directly and through their team, ensuring awardee sub-grants are operationalized efficiently and effectively monitored and supported.  The Grants and Finance Lead will work closely with external partners to support them in financial compliance and award performance. As a member of the WiDEF senior team, the Grants and Finance Lead will recruit and manage a team of up to four direct reports. The Grants and Finance team will actively support between 10-25, globally distributed, competitively awarded sub-grants at any given time. This position reports to the WiDEF Managing Director/Chief of Party.

About you:

Ideal candidates for this role will have a successful track record of supporting complex multi-year projects with large numbers of sub-awardees and sub-contracts. You will be an experience team leader and manager of globally disbursed teams. You will be well versed in donor requirements and specialized in USAID financial and grant compliance requirements. You are exceptionally well organized, a strong communicator, and have patience/empathy to help first-time and international sub-awardees with complicated procedures and processes. You have served in similar capacities on other USAID projects.

Location negotiable. Must be able to work at least 4 hours on US East Coast time.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and manage competition sub-grantee grants and financial management systems
  • Manage program budget, compile monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting
  • Manage sub-recipient due diligence, capacity assessment and operational capacity building
  • Serve on WiDEF senior management team, advising program leadership and informing program strategy and annual planning
  • Recruit and manage a sub-team to support program sub-awardees

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline: finance; business administration; international development; public administration or other relevant field
  • 7-10 years of experience working in the field of international development with escalating responsibility
  • Extensive experience managing USAID grants/contracts administration of similarly sized programs. Other bilateral/multilateral donor funding, private corporate, private foundations experience a benefit.
  • Creative team player dedicated to designing systems that enable core goals while also effectively managing risk
  • Strong cross-cultural communication skills, including experience working with globally distributed teams in disparate countries and time zones
  • Demonstrated experience recruiting and managing a globally disbursed team
