Grants Writing and Capacity-Building Consultant

Purpose and Objectives

The purpose of this consultancy is twofold:

  • Grant Writing & Proposal Development: Develop and submit high-quality funding proposals to expand HFHK’s resource base. The consultant will be required to draft at least three grant proposals by June 2025, with the possibility of additional assignments as needed.
  • Capacity Building: Provide tailor-made training to address HFHK’s specific fundraising processes, ensuring that staff understand the collective responsibility in donor engagement, grant writing, fundraising strategy, donor management/stewardship, and compliance.

Specific objectives include:

  • Identify and develop high-quality grant proposals tailored to relevant funding opportunities.
  • Design and deliver practical training sessions for HFHK staff on grant writing and fundraising, based on specific issues identified through a needs and gap assessment of HFHK’s existing fundraising processes.
  • Equip HFHK staff with tools and strategies for donor mapping, engagement, and compliance in program implementation.

Scope of Work

The consultant will be responsible for the following:

Training & Capacity Building

  • Conduct a staff needs assessment to identify fundraising knowledge, skills and gaps.
  • Develop a customized training curriculum tailored to HFHK’s needs.
  • Design and facilitate a participatory training session on fundraising and grant writing, covering areas such as proposal development, donor mapping, and donor relationship management.
  • Introduce fundraising tools, templates, and proposal planners to support HFHK’s ongoing efforts.

Deliverables

Timeframe

The consultant will provide support on an as-needed basis, with tasks initiated upon request and compensation tied to successfully completed deliverables.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal individual consultant should possess:

  • At least 8 years of experience in fundraising, grant writing, and resource mobilization in the nonprofit or development sector.
  • A strong track record of securing grants from institutional donors, foundations, and government agencies.
