Job Description

Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) is an independent, not-for-profit drug development initiative established in 2003 by five publicly-funded research organizations – Malaysian Ministry of Health, Kenya Medical Research Institute, Indian Council of Medical Research, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation Brazil, and the Institut Pasteur – as well as an international humanitarian organization, Médecins Sans Frontières. The UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank/WHO’s Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) is a permanent observer. With a robust portfolio, DNDi aims to develop new, improved, and field-relevant drugs for neglected diseases, including leishmaniasis, human African trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness), Chagas disease, malaria, filarial diseases, paediatric HIV, mycetoma, and hepatitis C that afflict the poorest populations of the world.

Purpose of the position

The Head of HR & Organization works closely with HR & Organization Director on the coordination and oversight of worldwide human resources operations ensuring adherence with policies, procedures, guidelines and alignment with local regulations and best practices. Partner with regional team members to implement global projects, various HR initiatives and provide strategic and operational support to the Human Resources function through effective HR generalist guidance to management and global HR team ensuring a consistent and harmonious approach across the global offices.

Specific responsibilities

  • Act as leader for the HR global team, and work with the HR & Org Director on team cohesiveness
  • Act as functional manager for HRBP level in all global offices.
  • Where requested by the HR&O Director, oversee completion of key administrative HR processes (e.g., staff contracts, leave management, work permit issues, payroll, benefits, relocation management, training requests, terminations etc.) to ensure effectiveness, compliance and accuracy in implementation and execution.
  • Work with the HR team on the optimal use of HR systems such as the HR database and HRIS across the organization and the production of HR reports on key HR KPIs and statistics.
  • Oversee the recruitment process for all DNDi Offices and global roles and manage the recruitment pipeline.
  • With guidance and oversight from the HR&O Director, work with the HR team on developing the training planification, the sharing of the training budget and the conceptualization and implementation of various staff development activities.
  • Lead the employee performance processes globally together with the Director of HR &Organization
  • Lead specific HR projects upon request of the HR&O Director
  • Provide advice on conflict management and employees relations.
  • Provide counsel on HR perspectives and requirements related to all HR issues to managers and staff.
  • Provide guidance to Regional Operations Leaders and HR staff in regional offices.
  • Implement DNDi HR policy in all offices, ensure creative application of HR policy and best practices throughout Global Offices.
  • Develop and support the implementation of local staff rules that are both compliant with national legislations and DNDi Global Staff Guidelines
  • Act as a compensation & benefits specialist by conducting benchmarks around DNDi locations.
  • Translate the organization strategy and goals into an HR projects roadmap.
  • Implement DNDi overall HR strategy and tools.
  • Manage the HR Annual Plan preparations.
  • Develop staffing plans and ensure the staffing needs of the organization are met on an ongoing basis.

Reporting line

  • Head of HR & Organization reports to the HR & Organization Director
  • Is the secondary supervisor for the HRBPs members in all offices.

Experience

  • Over 10 years in Senior role
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and matrix structure.
  • Experience of working in public and private sector is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record in Human Resources and Team Management

Education

  • Advanced post graduate degree or graduate degree with equivalent in experience to reach Master level

Other requirements

  • Fluency in English
  • Proficiency in local languages desirable
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Suite
