Job Description

BURN designs, manufactures, and distributes aspirational fuel-efficient cooking products that save lives and forests in the developing world.BURN has revolutionized the global cookstove sector by proving the business case for selling a high quality, locally manufactured and unsubsidized cookstoves.Since 2013, BURN has sold 200,000+ high quality, locally manufactured and unsubsidized jikokoas â„¢ stoves in East Africa. These stoves have helped 1,000,000+ beneficiaries save $39 million in fuel expenditures and 626,221 tons of wood while reducing indoor air pollution by 65%. BURN currently sells ~10,000 stoves per month and intend to double sales by the end of 2017.

About the role:

BURN is looking for a Head of Marketing – Electric, who will be responsible for shaping and executing the marketing strategy for BURN’s new line of electric products.

This role entails spearheading a team of marketing professionals, driving brand awareness, customer acquisition, and revenue growth in the electric product sector, and contributing to the overall strategic direction of the electric business unit.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, refine, and execute a comprehensive marketing strategy tailored specifically to BURN’s electric product line, aligning it with the broader organization’s objectives.
  • Define and implement a clear and compelling positioning strategy for BURN’s electric products in the market, considering customer segments and market trends.
  • Build and strengthen the brand identity for the electric product line, ensuring that it resonates with the target audience and embodies BURN’s values.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and optimization of marketing campaigns across various channels, with a particular focus on digital marketing, emerging tech trends, and sustainability messaging.
  • Develop and implement customer acquisition strategies, leveraging the unique selling points of BURN’s electric products.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product development, sales, and customer support, to ensure marketing efforts are aligned with overall business goals.
  • Use data and analytics to measure the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and adjust strategies accordingly. Report on marketing performance to senior leadership to demonstrate ROI and identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop a content strategy that showcases the innovation, sustainability, and value of BURN’s electric products.
  • Ensure that all marketing activities conform to relevant industry regulations and standards for electric products.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience and track record at the Senior Brand Manager or Marketing Manager level in Brand Building.
  • Demonstrated success designing marketing mixes and implementing brand strategies across urban and rural areas.
  • Proven experience in marketing leadership roles with 5-7+ years of experience in mass market retail and or FMCG.
  • PAYG experience preferred.
  • Fully operational capability in channel marketing, trade category management, trade marketing or customer marketing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing, including SEO, SEM, social media, email marketing, and content marketing.
  • Proficiency in marketing analytics and data-driven decision-making.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to develop innovative marketing strategies.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Experience with marketing software and tools (e.g., CRM, marketing automation, analytics platforms).
