Job Description

The Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK) was established in 1958 as a non-governmental organization (NGO). The overall objective of the organization is to improve the Quality of life of Persons with Disabilities through promoting Rehabilitation and Inclusion.

Head of Programs

NATIONAL HEAD OF PROGRAMS

Location:                       APDK National Office, Nairobi, Kenya

Reports To:                  Chief Executive Officer

The holder of this position will work with the CEO in National Coordination of APDK countrywide programs in partnership with Ministry of Health in both National and County government, International and local donors,other government agencies and partners, in line with policies and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning & Strategy: Develop and propose short- and long-term strategic plans and budgets, and work with branch coordinators to create annual work plans
  • Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely reports for the CEO and donors, analysing program data with the M&E office to support decision-making
  • Supervision & Support: Provide on-the-ground support to branch staff through regular field visits, ensuring effective program implementation and adherence to organizational policies
  • Networking & Fundraising: Maintain strong relationships with existing and potential donors, as well as other stakeholders, to secure continued funding and promote APDK’s services

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Project Management, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Public Health, or related field. A post-graduate diploma in Rehabilitation Services is a plus.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar position, preferably within an NGO.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
  • A proven track record of integrity, business acumen, and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Great written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated in proposal writing and donor engagement
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Track record of resource mobilisation, donor and grants management and a strong business acumen
  • Ability to lead and work with a team
