Job Description

Segera Limited is an oasis of luxury in 50 000 acres of wild Kenyan savannah.

Position Overview:

  • The Head of Vegetable Garden at Segera is responsible for overseeing the cultivation and maintenance of seasonal vegetables in Sugeroi Garden and Chui 2 Garden.
  • This role is integral to the tourism enterprise, ensuring a sustainable and visually appealing environment for visitors.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute the planting and harvesting of seasonal vegetables in Sugeroi Garden and Chui 2 Garden.
  • Implement sustainable agricultural practices to optimize yield and minimize environmental impact.
  • Maintain high standards of garden aesthetics to enhance the overall visual appeal of the tourism enterprise.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Landscaping to integrate vegetable garden designs seamlessly with broader landscaping plans.
  • Develop and implement a crop rotation schedule to optimize soil health and prevent pest and disease issues.
  • Manage and supervise a team of 6 gardeners, providing guidance, training, and support as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, particularly concerning the use of tools and machinery.

Performance Metrics:

  • Crop yield and quality.
  • Adherence to planting and harvesting schedules.
  • Aesthetic appeal and integration of vegetable gardens within the overall landscape.
  • Team performance and adherence to safety protocols.

Communication:

  • Regularly update the Head of Landscaping on the status of vegetable gardens.
  • Collaborate with other relevant departments to ensure seamless integration with overall ranch activities.
  • Document and report any issues or challenges promptly.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in vegetable garden management with a focus on sustainable practices.
  • Knowledge of seasonal crop cycles, irrigation techniques and pest control measures.
  • Leadership skills and experience in managing a team of gardeners.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively with the Head of Landscaping and other relevant departments.
