Job Description

The International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) has been the premier applied research institute focused on women and girls for the last four decades. ICRW works with partners to conduct empirical research, build capacity, and advocate for evidence-based practical solutions to change policies and programs. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., and with regional offices in South Asia and Africa, ICRW conducts research to inform policies and programs seeking to alleviate poverty, promote gender equality and protect the rights of women and girls

Responsibilities

  • Review Current HR Handbook: Conduct a thorough review of the existing HR Handbook, policies, and procedures in both Uganda and Kenya offices.
  • Assess Compliance: Evaluate the current HR policies against the local labor laws in Uganda and Kenya, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
  • Benchmarking: Compare the current HR practices with industry best practices and standards, including those from similar organizations within the region.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Conduct interviews and consultations with HR personnel, management, and employees to gather insights and feedback on the current HR practices.
  • Identify Gaps and Areas of Improvement: Highlight areas where the current HR policies may fall short and propose actionable recommendations for improvement.
  • Draft Revised HR Handbook: Based on the findings, draft a revised version of the HR Handbook that incorporates the necessary changes, updates, and enhancements.
  • Presentation of Findings: Present the key findings and proposed revisions to the ICRW Africa management team for review and approval.
  • Finalization: Incorporate feedback from the management team and finalize the HR Handbook for implementation.

Duration and Timeline

  • The consultancy is expected to commence on 1st October 2024 and conclude by 31st November 2024.

Qualifications and other competencies

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in Human Resources, with specific expertise in HR policy development and compliance.
  • Professional qualifications in CHRP, IHRM or related fields
  • Extensive knowledge of labor laws in Uganda and Kenya.
  • Proven track record of conducting HR audits, assessments, and policy reviews.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience working with international NGOs or similar organizations is an added advantage.
