Job Description

The World Health Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is concerned with international public health. It was established on 7 April 1948, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.

DUTIES

Under the supervision of the Operations Officer, the Information Technology Officer is responsible for the following duties:

  • Manages and oversees information technology infrastructure services and project management of IT projects in the country office.
  • Supervise and manage daily activities of the information technology team, ensuring service requests are attended to.
  • In coordination with UNON responsible for the installation, maintenance, configuration, administration, and reliable operation of the LAN/WAN network infrastructure in compliance with WHO standards.
  • Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, administration, and reliable operation of managed workstation environment, data centre server farm, and data storage areas within the country.
  • Manage, support, and maintain collaborative tools, such as SharePoint and other online video conferencing platforms
  • Implement and ensure appropriate processes for data protection, backup, disaster recovery, and fail over procedures are in place.
  • Monitor server and communications infrastructure performance, including VSAT, Internet links and services and telephony systems.
  • Responsible for security/cybersecurity processes and procedures and ensure prompt remediation of discovered threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Responsible for capacity and transition planning, and overall infrastructure performance.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate documentation and policies related to end-user support and the infrastructure.
  • Provide internal training/support to staff on the use of computer hardware, software and IT related services/tools.
  • Contribute to the preparations of budgets, work programs, and spending plans related to information and communications technology.
  • Collaborate with IT colleagues in the WHO Regional Office and other country offices as well as WHO HQ for regional and global IT projects as and when necessary.
  • Maintain the IT assets inventory (hardware, software and licenses).
  • Performs other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Essential: University degree or equivalent training and/or experience, in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or any other related field.
  • Desirable: PRINCE2, ITIL, Microsoft and CISCO Certifications will be an asset.

Experience

  • Essential: At least 5 years of experience in the implementation, administration, and maintenance of workstations, servers and network infrastructure, end-user support and project management.
  • Desirable: Experience in project management as well as solid knowledge of technology trends for effective user and ICT infrastructural support.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge in LAN/WAN architecture, configuration, and administration.
  • Practical knowledge and administration of Microsoft Windows server and workstation operating systems, active directory, and associated components, end-point detection and response systems, backup software applications.
  • Practical knowledge and understanding knowledge of virtualization, Hyper-V, VMWare, or equivalent.
  • Practical knowledge and understanding of CISCO switches, routers, active devices, and software.
  • Knowledge in implementation and managing IT security/cybersecurity systems and tools.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills be intuitive with a high sense of responsibility towards achieving results in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to write technical documentation and use various project management methodologies
  • Ability to work well in a team setting and under pressure.
