Purpose:

To carry out design, development, and maintenance of the university websites and internal systems.

The Officer will report to the ICT Manager

Duties and responsibilities

  • Design and develop responsive, interactive, and user-friendly websites for the university, ensuring consistency across different browsers and devices.
  • Translate complex requirements into visually appealing and functional interfaces through product or system development code.
  • Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  • Ensure seamless integration of the front-end with back-end systems.
  • Conduct user research to improve the user experience of both external and internal platforms.
  •  Design and prototype new features or enhancements to improve usability and accessibility.
  • Ensure website functionality and performance, optimizing loading speeds and ensuring a smooth user experience.
  • Regularly update and maintain the content of university websites to meet the needs of various stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement user interfaces for internal university systems, such as academic portals, administrative dashboards, and student management systems.
  • Create wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to communicate design ideas effectively.
  • Ensure that the university’s websites adhere to web development best practices, security protocols, and regulatory compliance such as GDPR and accessibility standards.
  •  Regularly update security features to protect data and prevent breaches.

Requirements for appointment

  •  Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, Applied Computer Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in front-end development, preferably within an educational institution or related industry.
  • Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern front-end frameworks such as Vue.js, React, Angular.
  • Good understanding of asynchronous request handling, partial page updates, and AJAX. REST API and/or GraphQL.
  • Experience with UI/UX design tools such as Adobe XD, Figma, or Sketch.
  • Proficiency in responsive design and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Familiarity with back-end technologies and integration such as Java, Node.JS, PHP, Laravel, or other MVC frameworks.
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git, Bitbucket.
  •  Experience with content management systems (CMS) like WordPress, Joomla, or Drupal.
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices.
