Job Description

Created in 2012, FSD Africa is a £30 million financial sector development programme or ‘FSD’ based in Nairobi. It is funded by the UK Government’s Department for International Development (DFID). FSD Africa aims to reduce poverty across sub-Saharan Africa by building financial markets that are efficient, robust and inclusive.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Duties will include but are not limited to support the Digital Innovation Pillar in:

Research support:

  • Conduct research assignments as requested by the Pillar Director and managers to inform strategy, pipeline identification, project proposal development, project implementation and fundraising. These will be largely desk-top based exercises (i.e. webpage scanning, literature reviews, report synopses) though may require some primary research (e.g. consulting with relevant stakeholders). Research themes will include, but not limited to: i. Carbon market development ii. Digital innovation in green trade iii. Digital innovation in fragile contexts and iv. Greening Africa’s agricultural transformation
  • Stay abreast of developments in the digital innovation and carbon markets spaces as defined by the Pillar’s strategy and share insights regularly with the team.
  • Work with the Assistant, Programmes to update the pillar calendar with any relevant external events including workshops, conferences and seminars.

Coordination support:

  • Provide coordination support for the Director Digital innovation in setting up meetings, workshops and travel;
  • Support in processing local and international travel documents, advance requests, travel expense claims and travel expense accounting

Other support as required by Director, Digital Innovation

Requirements

Preferred qualifications:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Economics, Finance, Development Studies or any other related field

Skills and Competencies

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Computer literacy
  • Demonstrated keen interest in working in financial sector development
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs and to uphold and live the core purpose and values of FSD Africa
  • Organisational, interpersonal communication skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise jobs effectively and the cross-functional teams on the project
  • Energy, enthusiasm and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and demanding targets
  • Manage the workflow timelines within the Digital Economy Pillar, ensuring work output meets the pillar needs.
