Job Description

Investment Manager

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with originations of deal flow and investment opportunities
  • Assume an investment execution and investment responsibility role within the team
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, external service providers and all internal stakeholders
  • Evaluate, structure, negotiate and develop investment opportunities to close in accordance with the AIIM policies procedures and relevant good practice
  • Take ownership of investment committee slide decks
  • Develop innovative and appropriate financial structures for complex transactions
  • Build out and/or provide oversight of project finance models
  • Conduct risk analysis and review of financial statements and valuations
  • Provide oversight of bid documents and presentations
  • Apply industry/product knowledge to contribute meaningfully to deal origination and ongoing asset management
  • Identify and escalate any relevant transaction dynamics to Fund Head
  • Actively engage with AIIM asset management and operations teams, including ESG, in term of deal execution requirements and see those through
  • Engage in fundraising activities including preparation of materials, joining meetings and investor diligence trips, and ongoing reporting to investors
  • Be an active and value-adding participant in deal meetings and proactively pick up work generated in those meetings
  • Be an active and value-adding member of the team in general
  • Manage the analysts/associates in the team such that they can develop to their full potential

Skills & Experience

  • Relevant Qualification (e.g. Honours Financial or Engineering degree)
  • Significant international experience in climate investing plus transaction experience in Africa – 5+ years of direct deal doing experience and / or working in a relevant climate business development organization
  • Demonstrable passion for early-stage business development in the climate space
  • Well networked, with solid relationships in order to set up for origination work – bankers, lawyers, advisors
  • Financial acumen – the capacity to demonstrate knowledge of and insight into financial principles and processes and identify inconsistencies in data
  • Good working knowledge of key commercial statutes and regulations as well as a general commercial orientation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrable organisational, planning and prioritising skills
  • Strong financial analysis and modelling skills
  • Strong attention to detail, with a high level of accuracy and ability to perform under pressure
  • Well-developed project management skills/ability to see projects completed
