Junior Analyst

Duties and responsibilities

Research and Program Evaluation

  • Engage in multiple research projects to monitor and evaluate the Foundation’s projects at a given time.
  • Design effective quantitative and qualitative survey instruments, including formatting, programming and piloting.
  • General logistics planning for project activities as it relates to content outcomes such as phasing of field activities, field officer training, coordinating project meetings, etc.
  • Collect, process, and analyse data (using STATA or R) from our development programs across education, water, and productivity initiatives.
  • Prepare customized reports highlighting main findings and key points and effectively communicate the results to stakeholders and program teams both orally and in writing.
  • Support the design and implementation of monitoring frameworks and evaluation tools.
  • Support impact assessment studies to measure long-term outcomes of our interventions.

Investment Analysis & Market Research

  • Conduct market research and industry analysis in target sectors and geographies, to assess demand, competitive landscape, and scalability of ventures.
  • Support financial modeling and analysis of potential investment opportunities, including revenue models, cost structures, and funding needs.
  • Map market gaps (e.g., underserved regions, unmet needs) and analyse emerging trends to identify high-impact investment opportunities.
  • Monitor performance of existing portfolio investments against financial and impact metrics.
  • Develop and implement impact measurement frameworks to track and evaluate social outcomes.
  • Conduct field visits and stakeholder interviews to gather market intelligence and validate impact claims.
  • Analyse program data to assess the effectiveness of Foundation investments in driving social change.
  • Prepare reports and dashboards for stakeholders, highlighting key financial and impact insights.

Team support

  • Serve as a professional and timely liaison to program teams when necessary.
  • Assist the Research and Evaluation Department (RED) team in other critical tasks and projects as needed.

Qualifications and requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Business, Social Sciences, Public Policy, Political Science, International Development, Statistics or related field.
  • 0 to 2 years of relevant work experience in research, analysis, or evaluation.
  • Experience working in East Africa or knowledge of regional contexts
  • Understanding investment processes and financial analysis.
  • CPA/CFA certification will be an added advantage.

Personal attributes

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools (STATA or R).
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn across diverse contexts and subject matters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrate ability to articulate complex ideas, summarise problems, and identify key lessons, clearly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated interest in both international development and finance/investment
  • Familiarity with impact measurement frameworks and evaluation methodologies.
  • Multi-skilled profile with capabilities across research, finance, and social impact assessment, or exceptional strength in one key area (financial analysis, research methods, or impact evaluation) with willingness to develop in others.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools and statistical software (STATA/ R/Python).
  • Experience with survey design and implementation.
