Job Description

Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013. The 1979 Act established KEMRI as a National body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and supervise the implementation of all surveillance activities at various levels including household, environmental and health facility levels;
  • Ensure availability of requisite study supplies and materials at all times;
  • Serve as the point of contact and principal source of information on study matters and deliverables for the site; and produce regular progress reports as required;
  • Develop and design local training for project staff in collaboration with the study investigators;
  • Work with scientific staff to ensure collection of high-quality data;
  • Work with other investigators to conceptualize and develop analytical plans for various data;
  • Provide study updates and liaise with relevant sub-county and county health management teams, MOH heads, opinion leaders and community advisory boards;
  • Work with project leads to contribute in the analysis of scientific results
  • Submit periodic reports of project status to the project team while identifying gaps and areas requiring further strengthening.

Vacancy Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: – Biomedical Sciences, Medical Sciences, Public Health, any relevant Social Science or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;
  • Good analytical skills and experience of using at least one statistical package such as R or STATA
  • Have an in-depth understanding of Good Clinical Practice principles.
  • Must be willing to reside in the study area
  • Ability to work independently and proactively;
  • Ability to work with flexibility on several tasks simultaneously;
  • Communication skills;
  • Demonstrated maturity and capacity to navigate a complex environment and respond to shifting and fluid priorities
