Job Description

Mr. Green Africa is a Nairobi-based recycling start-up whose vision is to change people’s perceptions towards. Waste equals value. This small company incorporates the concept of shared value—creating economic value while addressing social and environmental challenges—into its core, by harnessing the untapped potential of an existing informal waste management industry.

Summary

  • The Lab Technician will be required to undertake a variety of laboratory procedures of technical nature. He/She will be handling sensitive equipment to analyze samples or substances and conduct tests, reporting findings to the Product Quality Control manager.
  • The incumbent will have experience working under possibly hazardous conditions e.g. chemical leftovers in plastics. He/She will be well-trained to maintain safety conditions.The goal is to optimize Quality Plastic Sourcing and succeed in maintaining good service to suppliers.

Tasks

  • Coordinate preselection of plastics at the suppliers’ yards.
  • Supervise casuals preselecting plastic and ensuring that they only buy MGA plastics.
  • Accurately weigh the preselected plastic using the MGA scale.
  • Load the preselected MGA plastics into the available trucks ensuring that the truck capacity is maximized.
  • Offer quality service to the supplier.
  • Ensure that the casuals working under him/her have the correct documentions and are provided with PPEs at all times.
  • Safeguarding the MGA properties under his/her supervision e.g scales and PPE.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications, Regulatory & Legal Requirements

  • Proven 3-4 years experience as Lab Technician or relevant position.
  • Experience in operating electrical and nonelectrical laboratory equipment and potentially dangerous substances. Ability to operate MFR,FTIR, DSC and GCMS machines is an added advantage.
  • In depth knowledge of QHSE Systems, preventative measures and laboratory best practices.
  • Excellent physical condition and endurance.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel) and database systems.
  • Ability to work autonomously and under pressure.
  • Degree in chemistry or relevant field.
