Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013. The 1979 Act established KEMRI as a National body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.

Key Responsibilities:

• Development of laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Preparation of laboratory reagents
• Perform micronutrient testing amongst others using Immunoassays and ElIS techniques
• Perform next generation sequencing (NGS) using nanopore technologies
• Perform HRP2/3 gene deletions in Plasmodium falciparum using a novel multiplex bead-based assay (MBA) on MAGPIX® System
• Validate and Implement CDC microbiologic folate testing protocol
• Perform real-time PCR (qPCR) for infectious diseases on Applied Biosystems TaqMan Array Card (TAC) platform Implementing laboratory assays as per protocol and relevant SOPs

Vacancy Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Microbiology, Biotechnology or a related field from a recognized institution    Mandatory
• Proficiency in the use of computers and electronic case report forms (eCRFs) for data collection    Mandatory
• Evidence of Good Clinical and laboratory practice will be an added advantage    Added Advantage
