Purpose:

To create a learning environment to inspire and help students grow in appreciation of music. To deliver high quality instructions, engage in music research and contribute to the development of music teaching, research and innovation

Duties and Responsibilities: –

  • Teaching general styles in music
  • Teaching musical instuments, practical and theory
  • Teaching singing to students from beginner to advanced level
  • Incorporating musical instruments and movement in lessons
  • Supervise postgraduate students ;
  • Initiate, promote and participate in research projects;
  • Attend and actively participate in seminars, workshops and conference in relevant fields;
  • Actively participate in planning, development, implementation and evaluation of curricula in the department;
  • Attend and actively participate in departmental and School Board meetings and other activities;
  • Planning and implementing a program of instruction and lesson plans
  • Preparing students for School concerts and planned music experiences
  • Preparing students for practicals and examinations.
  • Inspiring and motivating students to extend themselves to music clubs.
  •  Mentoring students.

Requirements for appointment: –

  • Have an earned PhD and Master of Arts in Music Education, Fine Arts, or its equivalent from an accredited and recognized University.
  • Have an earned Bachelor’s Degree in Music from an accredited and recognized University.
  • Licensed by relevant professional body to teach music
  • Must have at least three (3) years teaching experience at University level or in research or in industry;
  • Demonstrable interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must have requisite choral pedagogy

Job Specification: –

  • This is a University teaching/research position. Appointment is on Permanent and Pensionable terms.

Candidates interested in the position are expected to fulfil requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya. In this regard, they must submit copies of the following: –

  • Certificate of good conduct from Director, Criminal Investigations (DCI)
  • Clearance certificate from Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)
  • Tax Compliance certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)
  • Clearance from the Ethics & Anti – Corruption Commission (EACC)
  • Clearance from the Credit Reference Bureau
