Lecturer/Senior Lecturer – Law

Position Overview

Riara University seeks a dynamic and visionary Lecturer/Senior Lecturer to join Riara Law School. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate academic to inspire the next generation of legal professionals through engaging, student-centered teaching, while advancing impactful research and contributing to curriculum development. The role also offers a platform to shape ethical leadership and actively engage with the wider community in meaningful ways in alignment with the University mission of nurturing innovators and ethical leadership. Candidates with a PhD in Law and a proven track record in teaching, research, and service are encouraged to apply

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning

  • Deliver high-quality lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students in selected areas of law.
  • Design and update course materials, ensuring alignment with emerging legal trends and local as well as international standards.
  • Integrate innovative teaching methodologies, including blended and experiential learning.
  • Supervise student research projects, dissertations, and moot court participation.
  • Provide academic mentorship and career support to students.

Research and Scholarship

  • Engage in independent and collaborative legal research with potential for publication in reputable journals.
  • Pursue research grants and establish linkages with legal institutions and funding bodies.
  • Present research findings at academic conferences, workshops, and seminars.
  • Mentor early-career academics and students in research development.
  • Curriculum Development and Academic Leadership
  • Participate in the design, review, and accreditation of law programs to ensure relevance and academic excellence.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of curriculum to address societal and global legal challenges.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to promote interdisciplinary learning and research.
  • Community Engagement and Institutional Service
  • Promote Riara University’s vision through community outreach, consultancy, and legal aid initiatives.
  • Serve on departmental and university committees and contribute to policy development and implementation.
  • Support initiatives that strengthen the University’s partnerships with the legal profession and other academic institutions.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential:

  • PhD in Law from a recognized university.
  • Proven teaching experience at University level.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more core areas of law (e.g. Constitutional Law, Commercial Law, Human Rights, Technology Law, or International Law).
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Desirable:

  • Membership in a professional legal body (e.g. Law Society of Kenya).
  • Experience in curriculum design, academic administration, or program coordination.
  • Ability to integrate technology-enhanced learning and digital resources into teaching.
  • Commitment to mentorship, academic diversity, and ethical scholarship.
