Summary

We are in search of an energetic and driven individual to contribute to a captivating and influential array of projects aimed at developing the private sector. Join our exceptionally skilled team in East and Southern Africa to conceptualise and execute strategies for private sector development, addressing the diverse requirements of emerging markets and segments. Responsibilities

Business Development: 

  • Establish and nurture connections with current and prospective clients.
  • Proactively enhance client relationships.
  • Create and present proposals to attract business, especially for the relevant Practice Group.
  • Attend conferences on behalf of MSC.
  • Contribute as an author or co-author to thematic publications derived from field experiences (Focus notes/Briefing notes).
  • Actively participate in marketing activities.
  • Engage in digital media dialogues, including blogs and discussion forums.

Human Capital Development:

  • Conduct “Quality of Delivery”/Feedback assessments with team members post-assignment in accordance with quality control guidelines.
  • Assist and support the development of fellow staff members by offering guidance and advice as needed.
  • Share knowledge with colleagues and foster opportunities for mentoring.
  • Take responsibility for personal development by acquiring skills and knowledge that contribute value to the organization.

Business Execution:

  • Lead or assist in planning and implementing medium/large technical assistance assignments.
  • Conduct set-up and de-briefing meetings for assignments under one’s responsibility.
  • Establish rapport with different contacts within the client organization to ensure successful assignment execution.
  • Plan and execute assignments with careful attention to detail.
  • Supervise and support the process of report writing and data analysis.
  • Review delivered training courses, prepared research papers, developed curriculum, and provided technical assistance to clients.
  • Contribute to the development of MSC’s tool kits and other publications.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s degree from a leading institute
  • Specialization in applied economics, agriculture, banking, public policy, public health, business administration, social studies, rural development, or related fields.
  • Experience in writing business proposals and concept papers.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Demonstrable passion for financial, social, and economic inclusion, as well as private sector development.
  • Possesses sharp business acumen.
  • Demonstrates strong business analysis skills.

Essential Skills:

  • Profound comprehension of private sector development issues encompassing agriculture, youth, gender, water and sanitation, health and hygiene, as well as the environment and energy.
  • Technical proficiency and knowledge in agriculture value chain development, climate change, digital financial services, AgTech or FinTech, and youth empowerment.
  • Over five years of hands-on experience in conducting field-based research and utilising hunter-gatherer design tools.
  • Familiarity with data analytics and digital technologies.
  • Strong analytical skills, coupled with proficiency in both quantitative and qualitative research.
  • Exceptional planning, organizational, and time management abilities, showcasing flexibility, attention to detail, and the capability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Outstanding communication, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated expertise in team management, report writing, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Advantageous previous experience in consulting or research.
