Summary

The UAS Operations Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of Enterprise Solutions Division within Fahari Aviation. This role requires a seasoned professional with deep technical expertise in UAS technology, strong leadership abilities, and a strategic mindset to manage and scale UAS operations effectively.

The ideal candidate must ensure a high performing team of UAS Operators and support crew through development and implementation of operational standards, professional development, and leadership for a safe, legal and efficient operation of Fahari Aviation UAS that meets the operational requirements of the ROC.

Principal Accountabilities (Responsibility)

Operational Leadership

  • Lead and manage day-to-day UAS operations, ensuring that all activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies, policies, and procedures to optimize UAS performance, reliability, and safety.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of operational staff, fostering a culture of safety, high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide mentorship, and identify opportunities for professional development.
  • Recruit, train, and manage a team of UAS pilots, technicians, and support staff.

Client and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the primary point of contact for major operational issues and lead negotiations with key suppliers and partners.
  • Ensure that customer service operations are aligned with the company’s commitment to delivering exceptional customer experiences.
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to identify new business opportunities, develop proposals, and nurture client relationships to ensure customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including suppliers, partners, and regulatory bodies.

Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure all operational activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate potential operational risks and ensure business continuity.
  • Lead the response to any operational crises, ensuring quick resolution and minimal impact on the business.

Financial Management

  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cost control for the section, optimizing resource allocation and expenditures to achieve financial targets.
  • Work closely with the finance department to analyze financial data and develop strategies for cost reduction and revenue enhancement.
  • Prepare and present financial reports, business cases, and proposals to stakeholders, highlighting performance metrics and strategic recommendations.

Innovation and Technology Integration

  • Drive the adoption of new technologies and systems that enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements and recommend the integration of relevant innovations into the company’s operations.
  • Oversee the implementation of digital transformation initiatives that support operational scalability.
  • Champion a culture of innovation, experimentation, and learning within the UAS service line, driving continuous improvement and staying ahead of industry trends.

Job Requirements

Qualification (Minimum)  

  • Degree in a Technical Field, (Engineering, Computer GIS or any other relevant field).
  • Valid Remote Pilot License issued by ICAO contracting states and recognized by KCAA. (Multirotor and Fixed Wing).
  • Valid Class 1, 2, or 3 KCAA Medical License.
  •  Years of Experience (Minimum)
  • At least 5 Years Work Experience in Aviation or related field.
  • At least 50 Hours in UAS Operations or related field logged in the logbook.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale operations and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Valid Driver’s License is an added advantage.
  • Shall not have had any conviction or administrative sanction under the Civil Aviation Act or the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority Regulations, which in the view of the Director, was sufficiently serious to render such person not fit to exercise any responsibilities in an aviation related position. – Must have a Certificate of Good Conduct valid within the last 12 months.
