Job Purpose

Our client in the flower farming industry is on the lookout for a Packhouse Manager professional to join the team. Reporting to the General Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for overseeing end to end daily packhouse activities and ensuring efficient operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily packhouse activities including staffing, order management, correspondence, flower processing, packing, and dispatch.
• Work closely with Marketing and distribution teams to ensure timely fulfillment of orders and customer satisfaction.
• Implement and maintain quality control standards to ensure flowers meet premium market requirements/client specifications.
• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards related to post-harvest handling and quality control.
• Manage inventory levels, track flower stock, and coordinate with the General Manager, suppliers, clients, and sales team.
• Maintain and provide regular accurate records/reports of packhouse activities, production output, inventory, staff performance, and quality control.
• Effectively communicate with other departments, including the production department and sales teams.
• Lead, train, and motivate packhouse staff, ensuring efficient workflow and high morale.
• Identify and implement improvements to packhouse processes to enhance efficiency and quality.
• Address and resolve any issues or problems that arise in the packhouse.
• Ensure workplace health, safety, and security requirements are met.
• Perform other duties within the scope of the position as assigned by management.

Job Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Horticulture, or a related field
• Minimum proven experience of 5 years as a packhouse manager handling a minimum daily production of 90,000 stems.
• Working knowledge of SAP software.
• Proficiency in MS Office, especially MS Excel.
• Knowledge of flower types, particularly standard roses, spray roses, and Gypsophila.
• Knowledge of Socially Qualified Certifications standards such as SEDEX-SMETA, Fairtrade.
