Job Description

Job Purpose

The Partner, Health, Safety, and Security provides support in ensuring the safety of employees, partners, and assets across various environments, including offices, field operations, and travel. This role involves collaboration with internal departments, external partners, and local authorities. Keyresponsibilities include contractor/vendor management, HSS data management and analysis, crisis management plan follow-up, document management, and addressing issues from risk assessments, facility inspections, and audits.

Key Responsibilities / Duties / Tasks

  • Investigating significant incidents and trends to identify root cause and mitigation.
  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of country risk assessments.
  • Establishing opportunities to influence development, management teams and programs ensuring that HSS issues are a primary consideration.
  • Contribute to the dissemination of unambiguous information and guidance to all staff regarding their roles and responsibilities across the spectrum of risk e.g. travel safety and health, personal safety, well-being, fire and accommodation safety and security etc.
  • Regularly evaluate potential hazards and vulnerabilities in various environments, including workplaces, project sites, and during travel.
  • Support the Implementation of strategies to mitigate identified risks and hazards.
  • Continuously monitor risk levels and review mitigation measures to ensure effectiveness.
  • Create and update training materials, such as presentations, manuals, and handouts.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of health, safety, and security incidents.
  • Oversee the implementation of corrective actions to prevent the recurrence of incidents.
  • Maintain emergency response plans for various scenarios, such as fires, natural disasters, and security threats.
  • Update emergency plans based on feedback and lessons learned from drills and actual incidents.
  • Perform regular inspections of facilities, equipment, and work practices to ensure compliance with HSS standards.
  • Prioritize stakeholders based on their influence, interest, and impact on HSS activities.
  • Provide regular updates on HSS policies, procedures, and activities to stakeholders through emails, newsletters, and meetings.
  • Establish channels for staff, partners and vendors to provide feedback on HSS practices and initiatives.
  • Facilitate regular meetings and communication between the HSS team and other Functions.
  • Collaborate on joint HSS initiatives, such as safety campaigns, training programs, and emergency response planning.
  • Organize HSS training sessions, workshops, and seminars for employees, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Implement HSS awareness campaigns to promote safety culture and best practices among staff, vendors and contractors.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with local, national, and international HSS regulations
  • Collect and act on feedback from stakeholders to improve HSS practices and policies.
  • Develop and maintain HSS dashboards that provide real-time insights and visual representations of key data.
  • Gathering, analyzing and reporting on the performance of the Foundation HSS systems, ensuring their suitability in providing the Foundation with adequate performance indicators, such as completion of Training, Risk Assessments and Incident Reporting.
  • Ensure all health, safety, and security incidents are accurately reported and documented.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of HSS data, including incident logs, inspection reports, and training records.
  • Analyze HSS data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement.
  • Utilize data analytics to assess risks and predict potential hazards.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to health, safety, and security.
  • Prepare regular reports on HSS performance for management and stakeholders, including incident summaries, compliance status, and risk assessments.

Requirements

Academic and Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in a relevant area (A degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering,Environmental Science, or a related field).

Experience

  • Minimum of seven (7) years overall experience
  • Proven experience as a Health and Safety Manager/ supervisor
  • Experience developing great places to work across multiple locations

Competencies:

Technical competencies

  • In depth knowledge of country Health, Safety & Security legislations, and procedures
  • Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
  • Experience in writing reports and policies for health and safety.
  • Experience in data gathering, analysis and reporting.
  • Experience of training staff in health, safety, and security matters
  • Proficient in MS Office; Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus.
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Diligent with great attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and engaging with a range of contractors/vendors.
  • A proactive, engaged self-starter who demonstrates personal ownership for finding new opportunities for improving processes, practices, or resolving problems.
  • Ability to work on own initiative to achieve agreed aims and objectives and find solutions to problems
