Pharmaceutical Technologist

Main Duties:

  • Accurate and timely posting of all pharmacy computer transactions for billing purposes.
  • Carrying out timely ordering for stock replenishment to the pharmacy store to maintain optimal stock levels.
  • Compounding, re-packaging and dilutions of drugs according to laid down guidelines.
  • Providing drug information to patients, doctors, nurses and other medical staff.
  • Participating in regular drug expiry, monitoring the pharmacy to identify and document items with expiry of less than six (6) months.
  • Liaising with user departments to ensure adequate stocking and proper storage of emergency drugs and intravenous infusions and minimize losses due to expiries and damages.
  • Participating in quarterly stock take exercise and ensuring timely explanation of stock variances.
  • Participating in quality management system activities including documentation, analysis and reporting for continued improvement of services.
  • Training pharmaceutical technologist interns.
  • Entering prescription orders into the computer and making labels appropriately.
  • Documenting dispensing errors and taking measures to minimize them.
  • Documenting adverse drug reactions.
  • Receiving drugs and verifying against the stock transfer printout.
  • Shelving items appropriately.
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives within the department and providing reports as required.
  • Any other duty assigned.

Required Qualifications for the Position

  • Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology
  • Registered/Enrolled with The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) with a current Practicing License.
  • 2 years of experience
  • Computer Proficient
