Pharmacy Technologist

PHARMACY TECHNOLOGIST – VACANCY CODE (PT-25) (1 POSITION)

This position reports to the Clinician. To support the provision of pharmaceutical services by dispensing medications, managing drug inventory, and ensuring safe, effective, and economical use of medicines in the university clinic.

Job Purpose:

This position exists to plan, supervise, and coordinate security shift operations where the incumbent will lead and participate in the provision of security services such as monitoring, training, and assessing the performance of the security guards. They must conduct investigations and report on all security issues in the university.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Dispense prescribed medications accurately and provide clear instructions to patients.
  • Assist in compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceutical products.
  • Maintain and update drug inventory records, ensuring proper storage and handling of medicines.
  • Monitor stock levels, prepare requisitions, and prevent drug shortages or expiries.
  • Counsel patients on the correct use of medications, possible side effects, and adherence.
  • Support the clinician in pharmaceutical audits and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Ensure controlled drugs are handled in line with legal and ethical requirements.
  • Participate in health promotion and medication safety campaigns.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional ethics in pharmaceutical practice.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution.
  • Registered and licensed with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in pharmacy practice (hospital, clinic, or retail setting).
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacology, inventory management, and dispensing procedures.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • A committed born-again evangelical Christian.
