Job Description

Kenya Maritime Authority was set up in June 2004 as the semi-autonomous agency in charge of regulatory oversight over the Kenyan maritime industry. As the pacesetter of the Kenyan maritime industry, the Authority seeks to strengthen maritime administration in Kenya through enhancement of regulatory and institutional capacities for maritime safety and security, to foster effective implementation of international maritime conventions and other mandatory instruments on safety, security, promote maritime training, Search and Rescue, pollution prevention and the preservation of the marine environment as well as promote trade facilitation and maritime investments.

Job Purpose

Responsible for assisting in coordinating the setup of the industry efficiency monitoring framework for maritime transport services and regulation of commercial maritime services. They are also responsible for coordinating and implementing strategies towards orderly development of an efficient and effective framework for provision of optimal commercial maritime services. They are also responsible for adminstering programs towards the development of the maritime cluster.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Work with IT personnel to develop business rules for data analysis for subsequent automation of the processes,
  • Compile data on maritime transport and logistics costs and standards of maritime transport services;
  • Mine data from Primary and Secondary sources;
  • Assist in organizing trade facilitation workshops;
  • Assist in monitoring of the industry performance;
  • Analyse and interpret results using standard statistical tools and techniques;
  • Produce concise data reports for clear visualizations for the industry;
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluation under the MPCC and the MOC;
  • Inputting data on maritime cluster;
  • Conducting analysis and generate trade/statistical reports on maritime cluster;
  • Mining data from Primary and Secondary sources;
  • Maintaining a data base on maritime cluster (including related to maritime investments, maritime services, coastal shipping, inland waterways, multimodal transport and natural resources);
  • Analyzing and interpret results using standard statistical tools and techniques;
  • Producing concise data reports for clear visualizations for the industry;
  • Working with IT personnel to develop business rules for data analysis for subsequent automation of the processes;

Person Specifications

For appointment to this grade, a person must have: –

  • Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Port Management, Shipping, Transport Economics, logistics, Business Management/Administration or any other relevant qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Proficiency in Computer Applications;
  • Fulfill the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution;
