Job Description

The Lutheran World Federation (LWF; German: Lutherischer Weltbund) is a global communion .The Department for World Service is the LWF’s humanitarian arm. It has programmes in 32 countries. The LWF is a member of ACT Alliance.

Overall Purpose/Broad Function:

Reporting to the Education Officer-Primary, the head teacher is responsible for the overall management of the institution, planning and implementation of curricular and co- curricular activities & events, coordinating the BOM, PA activities and implementation of government and organizational policies and programs. The head teacher provides technical guidance to the teacher tutor, deputy head teachers to develop teacher’s professional plans, execute and report, oversee school academic programs, ensure authentic data collection and dissemination.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Overall management of schools
  • Planning & coordinating school activities in consultation with BOM, PA, teachers, learners and Education managers.
  • Oversee the implementation of curriculum especially CBC.
  • Management and maintenance of school infrastructure and resources.
  • Create a safe environment for learning by promoting CFS policy, CP&SG policy and adherence to TSC and organizational code of conduct.
  • Management of school finances in accordance with organizational policies and values.
  • Coordination with the M.O.E., UNHCR and partners to ensure provision of quality pre and primary education.
  • Management of staff.
  • Ensure equal distribution of teaching and learning resources to teachers and leaners.
  • Classroom teaching.
  • Timely preparation and submission of reports (weekly, monthly, situational and termly reports).
  • Promote high standard of discipline.
  • Admission of learners-promote inclusiveness and equity.
  • Custodian of school records.
  • Secretary to BOM.
  • Promote education for girls.
  • Promote education technology.
  • Oversee internal and external assessments (formative and summative).
  • Create awareness on emerging issues e.g. GBV, PSEA, FGM HIV/AIDS, early pregnancies and drug abuse.
  • Oversee implementation of psychosocial support.
  • Promote linkages between teachers, parents and the community.
  • Oversee the school’s meals program and teachers’ lunches.
  • Chair staff meetings.
  • Oversee election of children’s government.
  • Oversee administration of national exams.
  • Assigning duties and responsibilities to teachers.
  • Oversee formation of and adherence to school rules and regulations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Deputy head teachers
  • Teacher tutors
  • Teachers
  • School support staff.

Requirements

Education/Professional Designations/Experience:

  • Must have a Degree in Education
  • Must be registered as a teacher by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) with a valid TSC registration certificate.
  • Must have served as primary school teacher in a refugee camp set up or in an informal settlement either rural or urban for a minimum period of three (3) years.
  • Demonstrate ability to supervise, mentor and provide professional support to other teachers;
  • Experience in a similar role will an added advantage.

Other Specific Skill Requirements:

  • Ability to manage and use e-learning/digital devices for teaching and learning, prepare and upload learner content on devices, data collection and analysis
  • Experience of working in refugee schools or with refugee community in the camp or urban set up.
  • Exemplary guidance and counselling skills, and experience in provision of psychosocial support
  • Ability to use e-learning devices for teaching, data collection, analysis and dissemination

  • High level of integrity, commitment and professional responsibility.
  • Ability to tolerate cultural, educational and religious diversity in the work place.
  • Passionate for inclusive education and some experience in mainstreaming child protection and gender issues in education
