Job Description

The promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, introduced the devolved system of Government which resulted to the formation of the 47 Counties across the Country, Kakamega County being among them. Kakamega County is located in the western region of the country with an area of 3,051.3 square kilometers and an estimated population of 2,079,669 and density of 682. Administratively, it is divided into twelve sub counties, sixty wards, one hundred and eighty seven Village Units and four hundred Community Administrative Areas. Politically, it comprises of twelve constituencies and sixty wards. The climate in this region is very conducive for many activities including crop and animal production. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Preparing county, metropolitan regional, rural, physical development plans;
  • Providing guidance on data requirements for the various categories of physical development plans;
  • Implementing physical planning policies and strategies; standards and programmes;
  • Conducting thematic regional and national studies;
  • Keeping record of deliberations and communicating decision of physical planning liason committees;
  • Advising liason committees and overseeing enforcement of resolutions; and
  • Preparing annual state of physical planning reports on county, regional, urban and rural physical development plans.

Requirement for appointment

For appointment in this grade, an officer must:

  • Have served in the grade of Chief Physical Planner, Job Group CPSB 07/ ‘M’ for a minimum period of three (3) years;
  • Have a Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines; Urban and Regional Planning, Urban Planning or Town Planning from a recognized University;
  • Be a corporate member of Kenya Institute of Planners or Architectural Association of Kenya (Town Planners Chapter);
  • Be a Registered Planner by Physical Planners Registration Board;
  • Have a certificate in Senior Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized organization;
  • Have a certificate in Computer Applications Skills; and
  • Have demonstrated merit and shown ability as reflected in work performance and results.
