Job Description

The Kenya National Examinations Council (also referred to as KNEC or the Council) was established in 1980 under the Kenya National Examinations Council Act Cap 225A of the Laws of Kenya. This Act (Cap 225A of 1980) was repealed in 2012 and replaced with KNEC Act No. 29 of 2012.

The duties and responsibilities of the officer will entail:

  • Initiating research studies and drafting research proposals on research problems related to examinations/assessments;
  • Preparing the program and coordinating the development of research instruments and tools;
  • Preparing the program and coordinating training of trainers for Research studies;
  • Coordinating printing of the research data collection instruments;
  • Coordinating training of data collectors;
  • Coordinating data entry, cleaning, analysis, and report writing for research studies;
  • Disseminating research study findings;
  • Processing and verifying data requests;
  • Coordinating the preparation of annual Departmental Performance Contracts;
  • Reviewing the preparation of the annual performance contracts;
  • Developing and implementing departmental plans, policies, norms, and procedures;
  • Promoting adherence to the Intellectual Property Rights policy.

Person Specification For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

  • At least eight (8) years cumulative relevant work experience, three (3) of which should have served at a supervisory level;
  • Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Education, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Research or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Education, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Planning, Project Management, or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
  • Proficiency in computer applications;
  • Demonstrated merit in work performance;
  • Membership to a professional body;
  • Fulfill the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya only for the successful applicants.
