Job Description

Associated Vehicle Assemblers Ltd. is a company based out of Miritini in Mombasa and assembles vehicles for multiple international brands. AVA focuses on Building Vehicles that support Businesses, Protect Families and Grow Economies across Africa

Job Purpose:

The Process Coordinator’s role is a key position within the Quality Department and is responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing standard operating procedures and job element sheets for all assembly-related operations. The Process Coordinator will utilize vehicle and equipment manuals, engineering drawings, assembly standards and all other reference material provided by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to define and benchmark AVA’s standards to the highest caliber.

Key responsibilities:

  • Interpret vehicle and equipment manuals, engineering drawings, and assembly standards to develop standard operating procedures, work instructions, and job element sheets for assembly-related processes
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments to update and align standard operating procedures and job element sheets with the latest engineering change points, equipment, facilities, and processes
  • Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of standard work instructions and job element sheets, identifying areas for improvement and adjusting them accordingly
  • Ensure standard work instructions and job element sheets adhere to customer-specific requirements, ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and regulatory requirements in collaboration with the Quality Assurance department
  • Work closely with assembly technicians to troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise with standard work instructions and job element sheets
  • Develop and maintain training materials and guides to help assembly technicians effectively use standard work instructions and job element sheets
  • Participate in designing and implementing new production requirements, facilities, equipment, and processes while ensuring that standard work instructions and job element sheets are integrated
  • Work closely with cross-functional departments, including Technical Services and Maintenance, to ensure that equipment and tools used align with standard operating procedures and job element sheets
  • Continuously explore emerging technologies and best practices related to work standardization, making recommendations to improve standard operating procedures and job element sheets accordingly
  • Evaluate existing assembly processes and identify areas for improvement
  • Explore alternative methods to ensure assembly processes are efficient and cost-effective, factoring in resources such as tooling, space, consumables requirements, and current business needs
  • Determine root causes of assembly standards failures, develop observation reports, and take appropriate remedial actions. Investigate or resolve operational problems such as material use variances or bottlenecks
  • Maintain an online repository of assembly and reference documents including established standard operating procedures and job element sheets, assembly images, vehicle and equipment manuals, engineering drawings, and assembly standards
  • Keep up to date with current and developing trends in the automotive industry, nationally and internationally
  • Identify and deliver service improvement activities across the business through process improvement methodologies and innovative thinking
  • Ensure established documents comply with safety and environmental regulations as well as the company’s standards
  • Perform any other relevant duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Requirements

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Degree in manufacturing, industrial, or mechanical engineering required
  • 3 years of experience in manufacturing or industrial engineering preferred
  • Experience evaluating and troubleshooting manufacturing processes and machinery
  • Excellent understanding of continuous improvement concepts including Lean, value stream mapping
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients, partners, senior managers, subject matter experts and technicians
  • Strong analytical, project and product management skills, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret business needs and translate them into operational requirements
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Strong business acumen and ability to translate technology to potential business impacts
  • Knowledge of ISO Standards, (9001, 14001, 45001, etc)
