Job Description

Dawa Limited is one of the leading pharmaceutical manufacturers of human healthcare products in Kenya and East Africa. Through our specialised human health division, we have over the decades provided front-line products that have ensured enhanced quality of life for patients.

Responsibilities

  • Product Strategy and Planning: Developing and implementing a comprehensive product strategy for the assigned product(s) that aligns with the company’s overall business objectives. This involves conducting market research, analyzing competitor products, and identifying opportunities and potential challenges.
  • Product Development: Collaborating with cross-functional teams, such as research and development, regulatory affairs, and manufacturing, to ensure the timely and successful development of new pharmaceutical products. This includes managing the product development process and overseeing the regulatory approval process.
  • Product Launch: Planning and executing product launches, including creating marketing materials, organizing promotional activities, and coordinating with sales teams to ensure a successful market entry.
  • Market Analysis: Monitoring and analyzing market trends, customer needs, and competitor activities to identify opportunities for product improvement and market expansion.
  • Pricing and Profitability: Setting appropriate pricing strategies for the product to ensure profitability while considering market dynamics, competition, and customer perceptions.
  • Sales Support: Collaborating with sales teams to provide them with the necessary product knowledge, training, and marketing materials to effectively promote the product to healthcare professionals and customers.
  • Lifecycle Management: Developing strategies to manage the product throughout its lifecycle, including identifying opportunities for product line extensions or reformulations.
  • Compliance and Regulatory: Ensuring that all marketing and promotional activities comply with relevant regulations and guidelines set by regulatory authorities.
  • KOL Engagement: Engaging with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and healthcare professionals to gather insights, gain endorsements, and build relationships that can positively impact the product’s reputation and adoption.
  • Budget Management: Developing and managing the marketing budget for the product, allocating resources effectively to achieve marketing objectives.
  • Market Performance Evaluation: Regularly monitoring and evaluating the product’s performance in the market, tracking sales data, market share, and other relevant metrics, and making data-driven decisions to improve performance.
  • Customer Feedback: Gathering customer feedback and insights to understand their needs and preferences, which can guide product improvements and future product development efforts.

Qualifications

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, life sciences, marketing, business administration, or a related discipline is usually required.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry or related healthcare sectors. Candidates may have worked in positions such as pharmaceutical sales, marketing, medical affairs, or product development. The level of required experience can vary from entry-level to several years, depending on the specific position.
  • Pharmaceutical Knowledge: A strong understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, drug development processes, and regulatory requirements is essential for a product manager. They need to grasp scientific concepts related to the products they manage and stay updated with the latest developments in the field.
  • Marketing and Business Acumen: Product managers must possess strong marketing and business skills to develop effective marketing strategies, conduct market analysis, and understand the competitive landscape. Knowledge of market segmentation, branding, and product positioning is vital.
  • Strategic Thinking: The ability to think strategically and develop long-term plans for the product’s success is crucial. Product managers must be able to analyze market trends, customer needs, and business objectives to make informed decisions.
  • Communication and Leadership: Effective communication skills are essential, as product managers need to collaborate with cross-functional teams, present marketing plans, and engage with external stakeholders such as healthcare professionals and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs). Leadership skills are also valuable for leading product teams and driving projects to completion.
  • Analytical Skills: Product managers should be proficient in data analysis and interpretation to make informed decisions based on market research, sales data, and performance metrics.
  • Regulatory Compliance: A good understanding of pharmaceutical regulations and compliance requirements is essential to ensure all marketing and promotional activities meet industry standards.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Product managers work closely with various departments, such as research and development, regulatory affairs, sales, and marketing teams. Being able to collaborate effectively with others is crucial for the role’s success.
  • Adaptability: The pharmaceutical industry is dynamic and constantly evolving. Product managers should be adaptable to changes in the market, regulations, and internal company strategies.
