Job Description

We are a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) promoting peace and social development in marginalized communities. We mobilize communities to realize their full potential and increase their conversion power. CPN is the socio-economic development arm of the Kenya Mennonite Church Diocese of Nairobi. CPN was founded in 2012 to facilitate a synergized proactive and robust response to the contemporary & everyday life challenges in marginalized communities within and around Nairobi in a bid to reduce the level of social vulnerability, poverty and intolerance within communities. We endeavor to address challenges such as violence and continued deterioration of living standards.

Job summary Perform on-going accounting tasks:

  • Manage staff payments and ensure that they are paid on time and the financial process procedures are followed.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations including bank reconciliations for review by programs manager
  • Produce accurate end of month, end of year accounts and other financial reports on time for approval by your programs manager and HR, finance and admin committee
  • Maintain, perform periodic physical counts, and review the state of assets with programs manager
  • Ensure KMC-CPN assets and financial information are adequately safeguarded and confidentiality is maintained.
  • Provide analysis and recommendations to improve efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability of the projects
  • Budgeting and Monitoring of Programs Expenditure:
  • Communicate with key stakeholders to ensure accurate information is captured in the budget and management reports
  • Closely monitor the bank account and the expenditure against the approved budget
  • Regularly update the program officer on any over-spends and under-spends
  • Other duties as requested by your supervisor
  • Government, Compliance and Statutory requirements:
  • Prepare the annual statutory financial statements
  • Liaise with KRA advisor on any tax related matters
  • Be the key liaison for KMC-CPN external and internal audit process
  • Create and maintain a record of all regulatory requirements including insurance renewals, other licenses and premises permits etc.
  • Ensure all insurances, other licenses and premises permits are current, complete and adequate for all aspects of the business and are renewed on time
  • Ensure all statutory liabilities of KMC-CPN for taxes and duties are paid on time
  • Keep up-to-date with relevant accounting standards and regulations in Kenya
  • Oversee and ensure all relevant government reporting requirements are adhered to and filed by deadline dates;
  • Where required, work with management to prepare and maintain employment contracts for KMC-CPN staff;
