Job Description

Strathmore University is a Chartered University located in Nairobi, Kenya. It was the first multiracial and multi religious educational institution in English speaking Eastern Africa and more recently the first institute of higher learning to be ISO certified in East and Central Africa in 2004.

Basic job summary:

This position is responsible for providing administrative and operational support to students and staff with regard to executive/customized Programs within the Institute.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide proactive administrative support to students and program participants throughout all stages of their learning experience.
  • Act as a point of contact for executive program students and lecturers, address enquiries and provide requisite support.
  • Establish, maintain and use clear and effective means of communication with staff and students, i.e. email distribution lists, notice boards and web pages.
  • Assist in the production of core program information, materials, teaching aids and general handbooks.
  • Assist and collaborate in preparing program timetables and other cross-program activities.
  • Ensure that copies of all program forms and information packs are up to date and appropriately stocked for use by students and/or staff.
  • Assist in the preparation of induction events and prepare information packs for incoming students
  • Create and maintain accurate student records, in both paper and electronic formats.
  • Assist with the administration of exams and upload results to the Academic Management System within the required timeframes.
  • Proficiently utilize and analyse data from University systems on program and student-related issues (e.g. progression, retention, attrition, completions) and provide periodic reports to the Executive Program Director.

Requirements

Minimum Academic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related field
  • Proven time management and organizational skills, delivering work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail with minimal supervision.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills and the ability to positively discuss and negotiate with clients, members of the business community and University staff in the provision of professional quality client service

Experience:

  • At least two years’ experience in an administrative support role preferably with experience in student administration or equivalent experience working in a busy office in an administrative role.
