Job Description

The World Health Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is concerned with international public health. It was established on 7 April 1948, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.

The incumbent is assigned all or part of the following duties:

  • Provide technical support in overall programme management functions, including providing strategic support to the office of the Regional Emergency Director; management of guidance and tools to develop the programme’s biennial work plan (BWP); and monitoring overall program and project performance.
  • Perform cross-cutting project management functions, including the development of workplans, checklists, financial forecasts, and tracking sheets to ensure efficient planning.
  • Support essential external relations functions, including resource mobilization and maintaining effective partnerships with all project stakeholders to exchange critical and technical information and ensure results are achieved as planned.
  • Coordinate the development of funding proposals working closely with technical units and other internal units as needed, as well as external partners;
  • Provide Programme Management Office (PMO) support for the WHO and Africa CDC Joint Emergency Preparedness and Response Action Plan (JEAP) Secretariat;
  • Manage the organization of the cluster’s official events and coordinate preparations for partners’ forums (to include conceptualizing events, managing event workplans, coordinating speaker preparations, tracking budgets, and supporting logistics, etc.); Ensure that event management and organization comply with WHO regulations;
  • Prepare, review, and edit various written outputs, e.g., briefing materials, concept notes, talking points, sections of reports and studies, and other deliverables to optimize clarity and persuasion.
  • Prepare technical and advocacy documents for Governing Bodies meetings;
  • Support preparations for official meetings of the EPR Technical Advisory Group (EPR-TAG).
  • Perform other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential:

  • Advanced degree(master’s or higher) in Public Health, International Relations, Public Policy, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized institution.

Desirable:

  • Incident management system training, prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse training, specialized training in emergency/humanitarian fields.

Experience
Essential: At least seven (7) years of proven experience in the relevant fields (i.e., programme management, strategy, external relations, public health) at the national or international level.
Desirable:

  • Prior work experience in the United Nations System in program management and external relations. Proven experience in external relations, partner engagement, writing, and editing.

Skills

  • Computer literacy. Expertise with software of common use; familiarity with SharePoint and other AFRO database tools.
