Job Description

Kenya AIDS NGOs Consortium (KANCO). KANCO is a membership organization established in the early 1990sin Kenya with operations in the eastern Africa

Summary

  • KANCO is seeking to recruit a Program Officer in Kakamega County. The Project Coordinator will support the day-to-day implementation of the USAID Nuru ya Mtoto Project Coordinator Key Populations intervention activities at an estimated 820 hotspots in Kakamega County while working with the implementation team to achieve set targets across HIV prevention, care and treatment continuum with a clear focus on field staff coordination program quality, documentation, timely reporting and submission. The Project Coordinator will also engage with county key stakeholders under the leadership, support, and guidance of the Regional Coordinator.
  • KANCO’s KP Project Coordinator based in the Kakamega County office will be responsible for planning, overall activities implementation, target achievement, delivery, networking and financial accountability. He/she will be responsible for the management, activities implementation, monitoring, target achievement, evaluation, documentation of best practices, report writing, and timely submission. He/she will also provide supervisory role, and technical guidance to the team at the DICE.

Duties and Responsibility

  • Will report to the Regional coordinator on a day-to-day basis;
  • Overall coordination and the implementation of planned non-clinical KP project activities targeting female sex workers (FSW) and men having sex with men (MSM) at hotspots;
  • Coordination of peer education activities, EBIs sessions, PHDP activities, and targeted outreaches.
  • Specifically, the holder of this position will supervise peer educators, outreach workers, peer navigators and any KP volunteers engaged in PHDP activities;
  • Will work in collaboration with the DICE Coordinator/DICE in charge and offsite facilities to ensure escorted referrals and linkage are complete.
  • Oversee mobilization of KPs for clinical integrated outreaches.
  • Develop and submit monthly work plans based on approved quarterly project work plans with clear objectives/deliverables and targets.
  • Work in close collaboration with the CASCOs office KP focal person
  • Liaise with M&E officer in field report collection, data and performance reviews;
  • Attend USAID Nuru Ya Mtoto Project meetings, county KP program meetings and KP TWG.
  • Conduct program reviews, prepare progress reports and timely submit.
  • In consultation with DICE Coordinator and MEO prepare joint weekly briefings;
  • Developing and maintaining strong collaborative working relationships with the County Department of Health, Police, and stakeholders;
  • Developing and submitting quality, accurate and timely monthly, bi-annual and annual reports to the donor in accordance with donor guidelines.
  • Document and share best practices; and
  • Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, Project Management or other related disciplines from recognized institutions of higher learning.
  • Excellent computer skills

Preferred professional training in :

  • Program planning, development, implementation, and Management
  • EBIs including SIO, S2S, PHDP and RESPECT Kenya among others
  • Project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
  • Community organizing, mobilization and development.
  • Participatory training methodologies and techniques
  • Resource development (mobilization and utilization)

Other competencies:

  • Strong leadership, managerial and reporting skills
  • Skills in project management
  • Good communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Proven team player-good in team building and analytical skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Proven partnership and collaboration experience.

Job experience:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in KP implementation and reporting
  • Demonstrated experience working with staff and beneficiaries of diverse orientations.
