Job Description

Finn Church Aid – Action for Human Dignity Finn Church Aid (FCA) is the largest Finnish development cooperation organisation and the second largest provider of humanitarian assistance.

Primary purpose of the position

The Project Officer will support the implementation of a project aimed at strengthening the quality and effectiveness of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Kenya through collaborative efforts with Finnish educational institutions, focusing on modern teaching technologies, individualized learning, and competency-based education and training (CBET) to improve learning outcomes, employability among Kenyan youth, and establish a sustainable model of quality vocational education.

MAIN TASKS

  • Collaborate with project partners to ensure the effective implementation of project activities in alignment with project goals and objectives.
  • Facilitate multi-stakeholder coordination, collaboration, and engagement among relevant actors including government organizations, educational institutions, private sector partners, and the project participants
  • Support the capacity building interventions aimed at strenthening the skills and knowledge of tutors and other stakeholders in the TVET sector, focusing on competency-based training, hybrid learning approaches, and vocational pedagogical skills.
  • Assist in monitoring project activities, outcomes, and impacts, ensuring alignment with project indicators and targets and identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepare activity, weekly, quarterly and annual reports to communicate project updates and outcomes in a timely manner.
  • Support in strengthening partners safe guarding systems and conducting sensitization sessions on Compaint Response Mechanism Response (CRM) to project beneficiaries
  • Participate in the organisation’s key events and represent the livelihood program in relevant foras.
  • Secure effective Partnerships with Organizations that provide work opportunities for trained youth and students in order to identify and catalyze strategic opportunities to develop and support initiatives that align with the organization’s core objectives

KEY RESULT AREAS

  • Implementation of project activities within the specified timeline, ensuring that milestones are achieved according to the project plan.
  • Timely multi-stakeholder coordination among relevant actors, including government organizations, educational institutions, and private sector partners
  • Collection and analysis of data related to project outcomes and impacts, as well as the timely reporting of findings to project stakeholders and donors.
  • Facilitate the sharing of best practices, lessons learned, and research findings among project stakeholders.
  • Deliver quality and relevant CBET implementation including technical assistance to targeted TVET institutions and support towards building the capacity of TVET teachers on effective pedagogical approaches as well as enhancing their continuous professional development.
  • Timely coordination with Project Lead, finance and procurement departments to process requests, payments and track expenses ensuring compliance
  • Stay updated on Education, ICT, Digital, and Technology developments: Stay abreast of the latest research, trends, and innovations in the Education, Technology, and Digital industry. Apply this knowledge to continuously improve curriculum training materials and incorporate demand-based approaches into training programs.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, TVET, Development Studies, International Relations, or related field. Master’s degree preferred
  • Proven experience in the TVET training and professional training in CBET approach.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in project management, preferably in the education/TVET sector or international development context.
  • Experience working with marginalized groups, particularly in the context of vocational education and training, is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of competency-based/skills education, individualized learning, and modern teaching methodologies.
  • Experience working with Donors such as GIZ, Universities and TVET research Institutions etc.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of the Kenyan tertiary education system,(TVETA) competency assessment, policies, and challenges is a plus.
