Job Description

Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is an international non-governmental organization supporting relief and development work in over 99 countries around the world. CRS programs assist persons on the basis of need, regardless of creed, ethnicity or nationality and works through local church and non-church partners to implement its programs. CRS has been helping poor, vulnerable families improve their lives through orphans and vulnerable children, agriculture, health, microfinance, and WASH programming in Kenya since 1965.

Job Summary: 

The Project Officer – WASH will manage, coordinate, and monitor water services and water resources activities and relationships with partners and other project stakeholders to assist in the achievement of the Kenya RAPID+ (Isiolo) project objectives while also advancing Catholic Relief Services’ (CRS) work serving the poor and vulnerable. His/her WASH technical skills and knowledge of the program area will ensure high-quality programming and continuously work towards improving the impact of this project.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and ensure quality delivery of the water services and WRM interventions of the project.
  • Support identification of strategic rural water facilities for infrastructural improvement
  • Ensure learning properly accompanies project activities throughout the project cycle. Analyze implementation challenges and report any inconsistencies and/or gaps to inform adjustments to plans and implementation schedules.
  • Participate in WASH networks, meetings, and select technical working groups as appropriate to represent the project to ensure collaboration and project visibility.
  • Support in identification of viable opportunities in water sector for Private sector engagement
  • Champion implementation of water governance strategies, including engagement with governmental and private sector institutions

  • Attention to details, accuracy and timeliness in executing assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to write project reports
  • Demonstrated commitment to respect, equity, diversity and inclusion including gender equality.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Required Languages – Excellent verbal and written communication in English.

Travel – 40% field travel and 60% office in Isiolo.

Key Working Relationships: 

Internal: WASH Program Manager, WASH SPO, Head of Programs

External: Millenium Water AllianceCommunity members, partner staff, other local stakeholders, program staff from peer agencies

QUALIFICATIONS

Typical Background, Experience & Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Water Engineering, environment, hydrology or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in project support, ideally in the field of WASH.
  • Experience working with partners, participatory action planning and community engagement.
  • Experience with WASH Governance and private sector engagement is an added advantage.
  • Experience in market systems development is a plus.
