Job Description

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Kenya is an independent prosecutorial authority established by Article 157 of the constitution of Kenya.The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is the National Prosecuting Authority in Kenya which has been mandated by the Constitution to prosecute all criminal cases in the country.

Requirement for Appointment  

Qualifications

  • Postgraduate Diploma

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL. B) degree from a recognized university; (ii) Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Studies from the Council of Legal Education;
  • Admission as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya; and
  • Meet Chapter Six (6) of the constitution of Kenya 2010; Integrity, Honesty and Accountability.

 Duties & Responsibilities

This is the entry grade for this cadre. An officer at this level may be deployed to work at any of the Departments at the Headquarters or County Offices under the guidance of a senior and experienced officer. Specifically, duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking prosecutions on all matters allocated to them;
  • Studying and evaluating case files presented and make the decision to charge;
  • Drafting appropriate legal document to be filled in court in consultation with the supervisors;
  • Facilitating participation of victims, witnesses, complainants and accused persons in the criminal justice system and protection of their rights;
  • Undertaking research on assigned legal issues and compiling reports on relevant information gathered;
  • Liaising with the police and other law enforcement agencies where necessary;
  • Conducting legal research on the files allocated;
  • Maintaining record of data and prepare reports on all the matters attended to;
  • Preparing briefs on different legal cases as assigned in a manner that meets the legal quality standards set; and
  • Implementation of prosecutorial policies and guidelines.
