Job Description

Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013. The 1979 Act established KEMRI as a National body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in Research Project: Collaborate with the research team to develop and implement research protocols, including recruiting participants, obtaining informed consent, and collecting data
  • Data Collection Perform assessments, interviews, and other data collection activities with study participants.
  • Patient Care: Provide compassionate and comprehensive care to participants involved in research studies. Monitor their mental health status, administer treatments as needed, and ensure their safety and well-being throughout the study.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed records of research activities, including participant data, study procedures, and adverse events. Prepare reports, presentations, and publications to communicate research findings to the scientific community.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members, including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, research assistants and investigators. Communicate research progress, findings, and challenges in team meetings and research conferences.
  • Ethical Compliance: Adhere to ethical guidelines and regulatory standards governing human subjects research
  • Reporting: Reports to study coordinator

Vacancy Requirements:

  • Diploma in Nursing (BSN or KRCHN) from an accredited institution.
  • Registration with Nursing council
  • Certified training in psychiatry from an accredited institution.
  • Experience working in psychiatric or mental health settings, preferably in a research capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of psychiatric disorders, assessment tools, and evidence-based treatments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
  • Commitment to ethical conduct and compliance with regulatory requirements in research.
  • Strong analytical ability, planning, and organizational skills
